The new stuff is fine, the old stuff blows up when the rust gets welded. I need to get some primer on this tub. getting some slight surface rust in spots.

Sounds like you need to move to a place with less humidity. ;)

I realized that the front of the bracket where I wanted it to attach to the back of the dash wasn't going to work out, so I did what Tarry told me to do. I welded a piece of angle hanging down from the inside of the cowl, cut off 2 inches of the bracket and drilled then tapped the bracket and angle.
welds are ugly because the body was sitting upside down for years in some guys lawn, so its very pitted. Rust makes bad welds. The bracket is easily removable, wheres my other design was not going to be.

I finish welded the pedal arms. They seem to be a bit high off the floor. I may have to cut them off and adjust again some other time if i can't deal with it.

I welded nuts to the inside of the bracket for the booster and bolts to firewall for mounting the clutch master. The pedal system is securely mounted. It has been a lot more work that I expected to make it happen. Maybe if my body was not all bubbified by me, it would have taken less time? I did make a bigger area for my feet out of the deal though. Still has plenty of room around the transmission/engine.

Made toe board support. The original one mounts straight to the top of the frame. That one is long long gone, the one I made a couple years ago was terrible and was in the way of the steering column. I made this one with a body mount that I will weld to the frame just like the ones that hold on the body and offset to allow whatever I decide to do for steering.
My objective is not to make a replica of the original or a perfect part but one that looks similar and functions adequately.
    Everything should clear the mount.

Really nice. Being able to offset it should help a bunch. There is never enough room in that area.

    Thanks guys.
    Battery box.
Wont fit in stock location up front because of big radiator and return neck plus the shock tower is now in the way. It used to sit on my fender where I cut in a recess and made a mount. It got hot because it was right over the header and whenever I wanted to change plugs I had to remove it all.

    Mock up with battery.

gotta leave the positive terminal out and enough of the battery case to make a hold down. The outside of the box gets flanges welded on.

Why not turn the battery sideways, but still recess it leaving both terminals accessible?

I so wanted to do that, but there is not nearly enough room to fit it. I would have several inches behind the valve cover and the battery would be difficult to replace. I have tried every easy way I could think of to keep this battery in the engine compartment. I can't seem to make it fit anywhere easily. The space behind the dash under the cowl is unused. I will not be putting a heater in, so why not a battery?
Thank you.I tried to find someone who has posted of pic of this location and had no such luck. Maybe the next guy who does this will find this and do a better job.
I am not keen on the higher center of gravity the battery will create, but really its only a couple inches higher than it would have been if I could have stuffed it in the stockish location. I have seen the guys that make a box and put it in the bed ( Duffer) behind the seats in the middle, but I am afraid I will then have no where to put mufflers.

You should post a separate battery box thread so others will find it if they're ever in the same situation as you.

As usual...Great work...Love the tub mount!

You're right. i should do that and thanks for the compliment!

Battery box is welded in. Its not finished. i will finish up a bunch of body stuff when i take it off to do the exhaust.
there are holes drilled in the rear corners of the box so that water will drain out when it gets wet. There are also holes drilled to allow a hold down for the battery. I was going to mount the back of the box to the dash, but its already really strong. I will most likely just tie it all together with a toe board combination body mount similar to the one on the drivers side.

I may have a strange sense of humor to some of you, but I found it hilarious when I was welding in the box that i felt unusually warm. I knew what it was of course. I was on fire, again. I generally light myself on fire grinding stuff, but this time it was when I was welding. The flames were pretty good today. i couldn't get the fire out when it was on me and not only that, but BOTH my shirts were burning.
Had to actually tear them off. In all seriousness though, this is why I don't wear any synthetics. Wool blend long sleeve, T shirt and these 2 shirts. Still funny.

I have a leather welders jacket that was given to me. I'm never gonna use it. You seem to need it before a skin graft becomes necessary. It's yours next time I see you. Or I could mail it to you.

Dave, thats really nice of you. I actually have a jacket I was not wearing because its not huge enough to fit over all that flannel and denim. I have chaps too. got all that stuff that i don't wear because lighting yourself on fire is dramatic and funny. I am my own physical humor generator. typically I have been wearing that suede jacket. Works good to keep myself flame free. Still funny.

What if you recessed a gas filler door in the cowl above the negative terminal. Would make it easy to get to that terminal without pulling the battery. I think I have the large 70-80's square door assembly from a chevy pickup around here. I also have the original battery lid from an M38A1, but you would have to create some sort of flange to keep it dry in there.

I have so many funny (now) stories about people on fire. The best part is the fact that you thought to take your phone out and snap a pic of the burning pile while standing there shirtless. :D

Will you be able to get the battery out without pulling the fender off? Not that getting the fender off is that hard... just curious.

I though about making a door in the back of the box. I still wouldn't be able to access the terminal. As far a making a hole in the cowl, unless i actually installed a real m38a1 door, I don't think I want to do it. I am not even sure I could get one of those to fit anyway and I am concerned about water infiltration.
I can get the battery in and out with the fender in place, but probably only because i cut a shelf into the fender for my last iteration of battery placement. The ledge allows the battery to easily move in and out. I did make the battery box a bit lower than the ledge for COG and the cowl flange, so it does need to tilt in a bit. Still, its unimpeded. I am not sure that an uncut stock fender would work for this. Maybe. I have an extra better fender I am thinking about using.

As far as burning shirts go.... I was onfire . I have lit myself on fire dozens of times. Those shirts have been on fire at least 4 times each. The bottom right corners were burned off to the beltline. This time though, i had to tear them off! I could not put them out. To me, thats funny as all get out. After i took this pic, I stomped out the shirts and thought about putting them back on. ONLY.... they did not go out. They would not stop burning.

I had to throw them in the ornamental pond in my front yard to extinguish them.

You guys are great to have fun with me on this project.
