it is not useful to rebuild all like new from factory, you put it in red, make the ignition working well and good bye.
There is too much work, the PO was a destroyer. You get parts for canvas top on ebay, but check them before.

I agree. This is not going to be a restoration, more like a clean and repaint.

Found the front right frame rail is cracked nearly in half:

The shock mount seems to be holding it together and the stress caused the cross member welds to crack on both sides:

Sandblasted the cracked area and then cleaned off the gobs of weld in order to begin repair:

Drilling holes at the end of the cracks:

Used a carbide burr to create grooves along cracks to provide a solid weld:

Was able to get the outside welded before my welder's fan motor burned up:

I will fabricate a plate to weld across the face of the repair area to help relieve stress on the welds. You can see the bar clamp I used to pull the cracked area back in to alignment prior to welding.

I assume you will do a conversion to the long tie rod system? Did this on my 2A and it helped a great deal - and no steering stabilizer.

The Ross steering is really pretty good if it is rebuilt and set up correctly.

In restoring my 2A I found that it is really easy to deal with frame issues if the suspension and other bits are removed… and the frame sand blasted.

    Just sayin'

    Installed rebuilt steering box:

Looks much different than when I started:

Installed the fan, fuel pump, filter and alternator:

Going with aftermarket heater so needed to chose a location:

Wanted to get all the holes drilled before painting:

There was a plate riveted on the firewall and when I took it off the original heater box cut outs were underneath. I used the plate and cut some patches to weld in:

Moved on to the body and started cleaning underside:

Found a few places that needed attention:

Cleaned, repaired, epoxy primed and then Upol Raptor:

Plan to prep and paint firewall and then reinstall body to frame. From there it will be body work and paint for a while.

Started working on the left front fender today.
This one had a few rips in the metal. This one was about 3" long with little fractures under the paint about 1/2" long:

    After some MIG work:

I still cant get the welds perfect but each project I get closer.
Here the top bolt hole where it connects to the radiator support was completely ripped out:

    Patched:

    Re-drilled:

Tomorrow I hope to get the other fender done (not near as bad) and then get the underside stripped, primed and undercoated.

The Radiator support was pretty torn up:

    And bent:

Stripped the paint to get a good view of the cracks:

Drilled small holes at end of cracks, welded, and ground down:

Epoxy primed the underside of the fenders with a brush to prepare for new undercoating:

The jeep looks great! Do you have any info on that heater? Do you like it? My old cj heater has COPD and doesn't do much other than make noise... haha.

    Seeing red in my sleep.

Masked and ready for Tamco DTM primer:

    Lots of sanding later:

    Test fitting:

When test fitting the fender flares I ran into a big problem. The Jeep has 1/4" thick steel angle running along the sides. This extends to the front and rear wheel wells and will have to be trimmed in order for the fender flares to lay flat.
The problem is compounded on the rear wheel well due to the Diamond Plate corner guards needing to be trimmed as well.

If my paint looked that good I wouldn't cover it up with diamond plate. Just mount the flares, personally, I wouldn't use flares either.

    Thanks.
Hopefully when I start adding the black accents it will tone down some.

Still more painting to do but wanted to get some of the electrical stuff done before I I can't access these areas very well.

Front still needs some alignment but due to all the frame repairs I am not expecting much improvement.
