Pertronix, vacuum, mechanical fuel pump relationship? 67 Jeep died/limped home

It only happened when I accelerated hard, and just once at that. I almost feel like the jeep said, "whoa I haven't gone that fast in a long time!" And didn't know how to handle the newfound power. I've been driving this jeep off and on for errands for about a month or so and this is the first time it's happened.

I am planning on going to Saginaw before summer so should I even mess with the original stuff, sans axle components, before then?
