    Look's Nice your moving along,

I Probably missed it, how many gallons is the fuel tank?............Are you going to do a tire carrier behind it or add some rear protection for the tank?

Thanks guys. You may notice that I have put bolts in the chain holes on the rear tailgate. I also used seam sealer on the gap to keep cold air out this winter, as I do not intend to ever open it. I am planning on a spare tire carrier / military fuel can carrier combo on the back built up off of the factory hitch. That should offer some protection for the 17 gallon fuel tank. I will be installing a receiver hitch for sure so that I can use a carry all on the back for coolers, etc. I had it running for a half hour or so again last night, and the smoke is going away quickly now. I must have run some oil up on top when I had it nearly inverted doing the hanger welding. I thought maybe I had some stuck rings, but it didn't smoke when I fired it for the first time a few months ago. If I can get the brakes bled tonight we may get to drive it. Steering is nearly effortless sitting in the garage. I'm anxious to see how I like the gearing. I'm waiting on my tube fender kit from CCfabs-and they said it shipped on Friday. Once I have the fenders on I'll be able to finish the outside in Desert Tan. I think it's gonna turn out pretty decent.

The do-it-yourself fender kit arrived from CCFabs yesterday as promised, and I got them completely mocked up and tacked together last night. They look good! Tonight I'll finish weld them and then we will be ready to prime them and maybe over the weekend we can get the underside coated black and bolt them on. We will be ready for some color on the outside of this girl pretty soon. Ordered a new carburetor yesterday. I think my smoke may be fuel related, but at this point and as far as I've gone, why run an old carb? I also ordered a start / switch panel, five 40 amp relays, grab handles for the rear part of the cage, and a set of new 2" gauges. I keep thinking "next weekend I'll have it done" and then I make a list of details to be done, and I think its 2 weeks out yet. Been doing that for 4 weeks.

Here are a few pics of the fenders from CCFabs. They are just tack welded together in these pictures. I finish welded them last night and they will get primed tonight. These have the 7" flare built in. Look pretty good with my rear fenders, I think.

Those look pretty nice I've seen them CC fenders before.......... I thought he made them in either 3" or 6"?

How were the kits? Pretty complete? Did they fit OK without much work?

This is looking so good. You are definitely inspiring me to work on mine. Its killing me that I don't have free time to work on my CJ-6, though.
Your jeep is a beauty. Your knowledge is vast. You are doing a GREAT job! Keep it up. and please, keep up with the updates.

The fenders from CCFabs were very well made and fit precisely-once I loosened the grill bolt and centered it up. They shipped complete and came with pretty decent instructions-that I read after I had installed them. As far as inner fenders-my son is on my back about that too, as he doesn't want to see the engine from the side. I'm thinking maybe some 1/8" black sheet plastic that I can heat up with a heat gun and bend and then pop rivet to the top of the fender sheet metal...I'll think on that. Mailman just came to the office and delivered my gauges, electrical / start panel, and some new connectors. Tonight I plan to do the last of the black raptor liner-inside and bottom of fenders, front floorboard, side steps, and touch up a couple of small spots. I bought a cheap 12,000 lb winch for the front of it yesterday. Its a Badlands from Harbor Freight. Got good rating in Four Wheeler Magazine for a cheap winch. $299 seemed like a deal. I'm going to add up my receipts one of these days and I'll post the damages here. Can't count my hours or it will be ugly. I sold an 05 Unlimited to help finance this project as I wanted a long jeep with family room but didn't want a new enough or nice enough one that I didn't want to drive it on dusty roads with the top off. My 05 was just too nice, and I spent all my time armor-alling and vacuuming it. Thus the bed liner inside and out on this one. Just hose it off. I may have it sealed up so tight it will hold water-might be drilling new drain holes!

Only worked on the Jeep Friday night and Saturday this weekend. Had other commitments on Sunday, so we had a good day off. Getting down to details now. I installed the Ford F-250 front shock towers and ordered a pair of Rancho RS5012 shocks. Drilled and tapped holes for a mirror on the passenger side and redrilled and retapped the holes on the drivers side. New mirrors installed. Picked up a set of Westin side steps that reduce the step in height from 28" at the door sill to about 19" to the step, so I bolted them to the rock sliders. I stood on them and they don't move. Also fabbed up a column bracket from an old steering box brace and a piece of angle iron. Also torched out a square hole in the center of the rear hitch and welded in a receiver hitch.

And I did drive it this weekend. Power steering is awesome. Works very well. Engine ran well. I cant say enough about the quality of the carburetor I got from Carb Xchange. It wasn't the cheapest one available, but they say they tune them on a running engine, and it shows. Bolt it on and go. Brakes are not right. Either I don't have the rears adjusted up properly and I'm using all the fluid in my stroke to fill the wheel cylinders, or my master cylinder is bypassing, or the booster is leaking-but somehow I don't have good brakes yet. It's all new, but sometimes you get a bad one. That 225 has a cool rumble to it. We drove it on open manifolds and my wife says "are you going to leave it this loud?" I told her there was no exhaust at all and she said she kind liked it loud and rumbly...I put a piece of rubber I had cut from an old mud flap in as the cushion between the clutch pedal and the floorboard-and it is a little big and the clutch pedal was binding and not releasing smoothly. All pretty minor fixes. Gearing? None too low with that high first gear in the 3 speed. I thought it would be pretty slow with 4.56's but it can definitely benefit from a 4 speed with a lower first gear-and that goes on the list. Needs a windshield, exhaust, thermal switch for the fan, air cleaner, pressure switch for brake lights, rear shocks, wipers, and gauges-and then I think it will be at the first stage of doneness!! Oh yeah, we coated the outside too! Check it out!

I like the comparison. There's a lot of hours and dollars between the two.

If you look closely at the pictures, you can see that my shackle angles turned out pretty good once all the weight was on it. Sometime it's better to be lucky than good! The front shackle reversal seems to ride very well...
