Yes, Lexan scratches easily, is not a good substitute for safety glass, and is breakable when frozen. Most states dept. of Motor Vehicles wont let it be used on surface streets.

Great for offroad I would guess.

Lexan is what airplane windows are made of, I did some testing for an airplane company about 20 years ago and they were Lexan then, oh and these were commercial airliners.

I use lexan on the sand rail.
Use Novice polish and scratch remover, not DOT legal but ;) .
I would use safty glass myself in the Jeep.

Side windows in rally cars are Lexan - much lighter than glass. However, they use a glass windshield in every case I've seen. I'd expect Lexan to not stand up well to wipers, in addition to not being DOT approved.

That's not what the article said. They're good enough, they're just not DOT legal, technically. Either Polyshields or Speedglass makes killer stuff that is harder to scratch than glass. I've had a Polyshields windshield in my flattie for more than a year and the only scratch I have in it is where I gouged it with a screwdriver during installation.
