Do I dare hope for a mag. build up??
We've been teased a few times in the mag. but no real build.

    Is this the one.
    I had a chill for a sec.

We know the Jeepster Commando is polerizing.
I bet the love/hate mail would be fun..

No matter what it looks like, its a Jeep.

    Build it.

    Um, please.

OK Edit: I see he's just going to wheel it to the ground... fooey

Ditto!! In all seriousness I have nothing against them..as long as its a Jeep its okay in my book...just like giving the Bullnose guys a hard time...kinda been a long running rivalry between them and the JC crew.

And really, they're both ugly, in a cool way. 8) Getting one for that price and condition is something we can only dream about up here.

If we weren't on opposite sides of the country and I wasn't in such a dire need for some cash, I'd be trying to trade you my '66 cj5 for that ugly beast. I've always liked Commando's/Jeepsters, but never owned one. Doesn't matter to me that it has the ugly blunt nose, it's what's under the hood and driving the wheels that matters.
Like the quote at the bottom of my posts say's, "Never pick a fight with an ugly person, they've got nothing to lose." Kinda goes for the blunt nosed Commando's too.

I think it is a beaut. I loved mine. That combo in a jeep is probably one of the best setups for the smaller jeeps. I ended up cutting fenders and doing a spring over and ran 35x14.50 boggers on it. It was like a caddy offroad.

TH400 tranny is most definitely toast. I may try to rebuild it myself with a $160 rebuild kit, but will probalby just drop it at a shop to be redone. I think most places will rebuild 'em for about $500 with a new torque converter.

The 304 engine wouldn't fire, but I haven't really messed with it enough to completely write it off. It it's toast I'm gonna go grab a 360 out of a dead Wagoneer that's on my buddy's property out in the desert. That engine should be good to go. Stock 360 with a Q-Jet outta my shed should be plenty of engine.

Dana 20 will stay, but I'll put a 32-spline output on it before I seriously wheel it. Stock driveshafts are there. I'll rebuild 'em with some new U-joints as long as the slip splines are still good.

Front springs are bent from where it got driven after the front shackles inverted. I know they'll snap at the bend, so I'll either replace them or will just build new mounts to run the Rancho 44044 springs I took off Murderous Overkill. Rear springs are fine - they stay. Shocks will probably be the factory take-offs from my '07 Megacab. They're pretty long and they're free.

Rollbar is gonna get extended up front and out back and tied to the frame. Rockers will give way to 3/16-inch boatsides. Fenders will get cut as big as I can. Wheels and tires are the 33x10.50 Baja T/As off "Project JR", the '99 XJ I built at Jp. They'll stay.

Plan would be to have it going at TDS and beat the ever-loving snot out of it.

Hopefully with all the used and recycled parts I've got hanging around and from buddies it'll all come together for under $2,500.

Just found a receipt in my stuff the other day from Gunderson Transmission in Pierre, South Dakota for a rebuild and new TC for my TH400 in my 78 Cherokee I had at the time (2003). $375. I'd say that was a bargain.

after hanging at the Hazel compound yesterday with BKD ,,,,,I now love the true uglyness of that year Commando, the hood bulge is WAY cool!!! ,the frt. parking lights are very pornographiclly unique, and the way Dummy is going to slice it up will all be just about right.............but that tailgate is still pretty ugly no matter what he does with it....
I'm always outside the box though , I drive an Olds and not a chevy .

Yup, she's a pig. Couple more teasers:

Inverted front shackles. Somebody drove it like this and bent both front springs. I'm gonna put on the Rancho 44044 Waggy springs I had on the front of Overkill. I'll build some custom mounts and will probably do a shackle-reversal.

I've always hated Gambler-style wheels. No offense to anybody who likes 'em - just personal preference. Some dude is coming over later today to grab 'em for cheap $$$.

Those tires might be flat-spotted. :)

That model of tailgate is really ugly, with the "wart" in the middle. Apparently its only purpose is to make room for the spare tire to lay down behind the seat.

The "booby" turn signals are stock on a bullnose. They were also used on Waggies with the egg crate grill. Also several AMC cars of the early 70's.

(Puts on Ed McMahon voice) - Hiyoooooo.

By the way, dude flaked. I'll post 'em in the classifieds to follow the rules, but for ECJ5 members - 4 saweeeet BFG A/T tires with custom vented sidewalls. $120/all. No shipping. Must take Gambler rims with 'em.
