Got the knuckles/axles/brakes finished tonight. I still need to torque down the u-bolts, attach the drive line, and replace fluids.
I felt like I was in over my head when I started, but it wasn't really
as difficult as I imagined.....I feel like the computer nerd " Boris" in one of the more recent James Bond movies.....I am invincible!!!!!!! :D

finally got around to installing the HEI dizzy that's been sitting in my garage since last summer . I'm gonna have to replace the air cleaner as it's to big now, but other than that install went well.
I pulled the plugs and re gapped to 45-50 (they looked great) and then played a bit w/ advance. Low speed idle is smooooooth, and seems more responsive to acceleration. I'm still gonna play w/ the advance, but overall happy. Big thanks to sdcj6 (Ray) for your on the call (phone) help:beer:

well I think I've got the timing dialed in on the new HEI setup.I had to put a smaller air filter on because my old one was to big after new dizzy, always liked Edelbrocks wedge design so that's what I went with. I also installed the roller fairlead I got from jpflat2a
    [IMG]
I finally got the d-rings installed, the plate I used for recovery points was really hard stuff...the guys at the farm shop that drilled out the holes for me were cussing pretty good by the time they were finished :D
    [IMG]
tomorrow nights project is correcting the camber on the D30 I recently installed...about 4 degrees+ on passenger side, about 2 degrees+ on drivers....gonna shoot for 0 degrees on both using these shims
    [IMG]
    more on that later

Ok I ended up not having to mess w/ the camber so I worked on getting ready for the dunes this weekend. I bought a whip/flag and welded a nut to the bumper for install
    [IMG]
I also got a hi lift jack, after much consideration I decided to mount it on the wheel well . I used some bumper material that we use on our truck loading dock here at the nursery. I angled it out of the way a bit, it fits great and seems quit so far

I'm looking forward to this weekend!:)

Surprised they let you do the flag on the back -- do the dunes out there allow two-way traffic?

it's actually a requirement to get a day pass and use the dunes at Glamis....I figured later it would be a good place to mount the CB whip

What I meant was rear vs. front. We run flags in the dunes here too - but they have to be front mounted so you can see them quicker as your rig nears the top of a dune.

Ok gotcha....I read the regs, it says flag no lower than 8' above ground but no other requirement. I've never actually been out there so if I need to change it on site I guess I'll figure out a way to Micky Mouse it. Seems most I've seen on vids were top or back mounted, may need to re-think it after seeing what others do
    Thanks Mike....Jim S.

so the 6 did pretty good in the dunes, almost rolled it once :). I had to clean sand outta all the carb linkages to get it to idle right after the trip. I mounted the slot mags and AT Yokohamas before the leaving. I thought I'd post pics here for the build thread history

Next project is going to a junk yard for a stock PS pitman arm (the one on there now is to short), then onto the spare tire carrier and rear gas tank.

48" jack mounted to the wheel well? Show off... :rofl:R) (Some of us 5 guys are kinda jealous)

    Wheels look good. 8)

Hey, Jim, how's those 4.27 work out with the OD? Is it a good combo with the 33" tires, or too much gear in 4th/OD? I realize you've got some go-fast under the hood, how do you think it would do with a Dauntless?

Really think it's the perfect gear for my setup, I've had it up to 65-70mph at just over 2000rpm's. With the T18 granny low and twin stick D18 I've got a real great crawl ratio as well.
From what I've seen from the V6 performance torque wise I think it'd probabley work well for you
    Jim S.
ps...got the jack mount idea from Ray (sdcj6) worked out great...got some other mods coming in the future making use of the xtra space :)

details details:rofl:....part of the 6 being a DD is it becomes obvious quickly when something is not right. After our trip to Glamis 2 things needed immediate attention. First was the Edelbrock air cleaner I recently installed, when I got back there was sand in the carb . I guess it works alright for the street but for off road it needs to go. The 14" unit wouldn't clear the HEI so I made a velocity stack outta some 1/8" flat stock I had at work, it's 2 1/2" tall
    [IMG]
    worked out perfect
    [IMG]
The next thing was turning radius on the dana30, the pitman arm was to short so my turning radius was maxed out here
    [IMG]
that was full lock, couldn't even make a u turn in a intersection. I went to the local pick n pull and grabbed a unit off a late 70's El Camino...(it's on the right)
I had to drill out the hole on the drag link side but other than that it was a easy swap....now I have full lock to lock turn radius
    [IMG]
made a u turn at the intersection by my house w/o backing up! I'm ready to hit the trails w/ you shorty Jeep guys now...bring it on:D

    Jim,
Sand in the carb? That's not a good thing is it?
That must have been hairy trying to turn:shock:
I may be interested in the old pitman arm if you wanna sell... Mine's way too long on the manual box and will cross the tie rods, that one looks like a good length, shall I PM you?
