Springs Coming. Got the wheels and tires back on the 53 M38A1 after having them balanced. Got a Death Wobble problem. Got a new set of tie rod ends from John at MWM. Took the 64 M38A1 for a couple of loops around the block. Running well, still needs some carb tune up. starts to stumble and takes the fuel slowly, but it kept running. Got to try out my "New" 24V Dwell / Tach meter when 1967CJ5A gets back over. Got a couple of wiper arms that are just flapping without turning the vacuum motor. Got to check that out. One tire just decides to get slack, then stay up for a while, got to check that out also. Horn has quit on the 53, always little things. Fun getting them back out again now that the weather is getting better. I hate having to clean up all the tools and sockets and move stuff where they have been sitting.
    Progress.

Ah Spring is coming, things are happening.

Finally got some time to work in the jeep shop and finish up the rotisserie build. Spent quite a bit of time gathering materials for the assembly. Turned out I had every thing except a few bolts. The 3x3 tubing is a little bit overkill but it is what I had on hand and was free. Very heavy duty, could likely rotate an entire jeep. LOL. Everything fitted so can be entirely disassembled for storage. Paint later, maybe const yellow.
Total spent about 6 dollars for bolts and some welding wire.
Got the tub mounted and removed the rusty tool box and the tool box floor. Sheet metal fab is slow work for me.
Maybe some more shop time next week. This carpal tunnel thing is slowing me down. IMG_5313.jpg IMG_5316.jpg IMG_5349.jpg IMG_5350.jpg

That rotisserie looks very beefy. Should serve you well for a lot of years.

Sure is heavy even empty. I have made myself an attachment so I can use my skiidsteer and pallet fork to move it and the tub or frame around and, load it on my flat bed truck or trailer if needed.

Dana 18 output seal, National 450185 is what I used thanks to info gleaned from this forum!
I think I told you guys that I honked up the rear seal that came with the Novak rebuild kit, so I pulled it and replaced with what I could get next day from Napa.
I don’t remember exactly how long ago, only months and that Napa seal is leaking like a sieve. When I got everything apart the rubber lips were cracked in several places. Kind of a pisser for a $$34 seal. National 450185 was $10 ish from several different vendors on that a place online.
My yoke is nice and smooth, no grooves or scratches. I’m confident I’ll be leak free in another 6 months (at least from the rear seal!).

Had some extra heim joints from another project laying around so I picked up some 5/16” cold rolled stock and beefed up the core support rods.

Getting ready for Spring. Saturday drove the 64 USMC around, got to change the oil and filter, grease the chassis and get ready for the season. Moved a bunch of stuff out of the way so I could get to the Jeeps easier. Got the 53 cranked, and let it run for a little while. Drove it up the road and it died. Couldn't get it re cranked.
turned it around in the road by hand and called a neighbor and he helped me push it and another neighbor came out and helped me get it rolling down the hill. Got turned in the driveway and pulled it into the garage with the Kubota.
Wore me out but got it in the garage little by little pushing it by hand. Fuel is low, but just didn't want to crank. One of those days. Back on it tomorrow, and Mike (1967 CJ5A) is coming Sat to give me a hand with these Jeeps. This is the best forum. Some great mechanics here to help you keep them running. The day didn't go as well as I hoped, but a whole lot better than I expected. Tomorrow, I'll put in fresh gas and try to get it running a little longer.
Hoping to take at least one Jeep to the Military Vehicle Show in Denton NC April 27th.

If this jeep doesn't get used much and if it were me, I'd try blowing air reverse though the fuel line first....Maybe.

Don't forget to take the gas cap loose or it'll squirt back at you

I'll try it, we were going to do some more carb tuning.
We'll be working on them on Saturday.

Did you have to cut your grill to fit that radiator? I'm working through installing mine now, and the bottom of the fan hits the radiator in the stock position.

Yes. I cut the radiator mounts off of the core support (to match the angle of the fan) then bolted 1 1/2” x 3/16” bar to radiator. Mocked it in place and tacked it through the grill slots. Then removed radiator and the core support from the Jeep and welded it on a table.

Late post from TDS Saturday. Spent several hours with my buddy trying to get the FF hub on the 66 to engage, or at least get something to make it work like a drive flange. Never had any luck, so it got to sit and look pretty all weekend.

The front hubs look like the old Cutlass. What full floater do you have?

The front hubs are Kellys. Rear is the old Warn FF D44 kit.

Warn used the internal style hub and are hard to find. Not sure what parts are available. Hopefully just needs cleaning and lubrication and not an axle.

Warn discontinued everything in 2006 unfortunately. I took the hub face out when I was out there, the set screws were too tight and tweaked the hub face. (The instructions warn explicitly against this, I sure wish I had read them!) This caused the threads to strip inside the hub face. I think it might be fixable but it would take a lot of work. Hopefully I can find a set of hubs or even just the face and attached guts.

If it was my jeep I would probably put together some sort of drive flange setup like Warn offered and call it done. But it's my dad's so I would like to keep it with locking hubs.

If I remember correctly, some parts of the hub were also used on early Fords such as the Bronco.

I believe you are right, I've seen some posts online about the hub face I need possibly being the same. If I don't have any luck with a complete assembly I may also go that way
