What Did You Do To Your Jeep Today?

    I wanted a T1 Westinghouse Compressor but I decided to save my money and work on making this fit. I thought about putting it upright on the driver side of the engine but I'll have to do something about the lower radiator hose.

    First time sewing leather. I had some deer hide laying around, that I never ended up using for another project. I ended up making making some shifter boots.

    I ended up buying some leather dye, i didnt think the tan was going to fit to well.

    I used my shop vice with some wood to hold the leather while I worked with it. Just waiting on the rest of the OD unit parts to come in...any day now.

    Finally got around to putting a breather filter on the jeep and a treat especial; putting a water pump on this clapped out 85 mustang gt. Oh, and of course the alternator is shot aswell.

    Took the Solex apart in the street and cleaned it. I added a fuel filter to the system in hopes of preventing another carburetor tear down.
    Changed the spark plugs (E3.52).

    I installed the steering linkage in my '68 project jeep.

    Mocking up the steering shafts with oak dowels:

    ^ That looks good. I might have to copy that. What are you using for a steering column?
    I think I might have a rear dump, driver sd exhaust manifold too. Might be a little easier.

    He's got a hydraulic clutch setup. I'm afraid a rear-dump might drop right into it.

    The steering column I used is a "UNIVERSAL 30" BLACK TILT STEERING COLUMN FLOOR SHIFT NO KEY" off of eBay from Classic Performance. I bought the steering shaft u-joints from there, too. I'm using an Advanced Adapters pedal kit with their hydraulic clutch slave cylinder.

    Here's the steering box. It's off of craigslist from a Bronco, I believe. ITLKSEZ did the frame mods to make it fit.

    Here's what the tie rods and dropped Pitman arm look like:

    The steering box is located in the perfect place and doesn't interfere with the front clip or radiator.

    ITLKSEZ did the frame strengthening, the engine mounts, the tie rod flip, and designed and fabricated the PTO winch mount.

  14. That's one way around the forward dump manifold. Looks good and you can still get to the spark plugs!

    Replaced the generator in my '57. At first I thought it was the regulator, but then I found the generator was maxing out at 20 amps, and not getting the voltage high enough for the reg to click in. New brushes didn't help.

    I guess one per 60 years isn't too bad, if you don't count the half-hour of labor.

    image.jpeg image.jpeg Got the front brakes on this morning. Wish the studs were a bit longer, so I could use lock nuts or washers. I used the ones that were in the archives and they seem 1/4 inch short. I used lock tight, so I hope that's good.

    image.jpeg Had a question. I put new springs on and I'm not sure if I need these shims in rear? It has stock shackles and they were on old springs, so I don't know if that's a factory thing for proper drive shaft angle.

    Are the shims tapered?

    Yes, they are tapered. Not sure if this was standard on a 1969 CJ5 or added by PO. The thick side was on the front so it pointed the pumpkin towards the transfer case.

    Decided to try my hand at making my own white soft top. I finished the two sides today. Ive been learning how to weld together the vinyl material, but there is definitely a bit of a learning curve :banghead:. These are the second set I've made. The first set I tried to sew the windows in and it just turned into a bulky mess. So after doing a little bit of research I decided to try to weld them in which is giving me a much cleaner look. I also decided to make my own door frames since no one offers a two piece door with the windows in the lower section. So far I really like how its turning out. I have both halves made just need to decide on a door latch before I sew material over them.
