Lol . Yeah it was late and dark. My crummy 5 year old phone takes crappy pics with the flash. Look closely you'll see the finger smudges in the paint. I got impatient waiting for the spray bomb job. Must have progress!! PS that Nissan truck slave is $8 on rock and that's the Nissan hose as well. Napa had a 30" 3/16 hard line with 10mm ends for a few bucks.

#1 and #4 pistons' compression rings were in pieces. Soooo... if anyone needs a ball hone for a 134, I'm now the proud owner of one. Pay shipping and it's yours on loan.

  3. Got the new water pump on the Dauntless I'll be using in the Willys pickup.

Got an initial clean up on the oil pan too.

    DSCF0984.JPG

Last Friday I removed the left valve cover from Peppy and pulled the rocker shaft off to disassemble and clean up. Sure enough, there was some sludge in the rear of the rocker shaft which was causing my two left rear rockers to tick. Also found the first rocker had a bit of a hammered tip. Knocked a rocker tip out of a spare rockers and shaft assembly and replaced that worn tip. Now the engine is quieter, but alas, I will have to do the right side next for total silence!

Made it haul out several trailer-loads of oak firewood from a very tight and steep spot. Only a Jeep could have done it.

    Living the dream.:)

  8. Managed to head out to the shop/storage Sunday. Was able to finish wire-wheeling the frame for the PU project. That was after I finally got the pitman arm off the half-a-steeringbox. Of course, I forgot the camera as usual, BUT I did bring back the nasty crossmember support brackets so I CAN provide evidence of what I did. Pics or it didn't happen - I know. LOL. Had to heat the rivets to chisel them off on the inside of the frame. Frame was better than I thought it would be underneath those brackets. Still have to get to some welding and fab, but I sprayed 2 whole cans of Rust-o-leum Rust Performer on the clean areas that do not need welding.

Plan to not use these brackets or anything made to replace this design at all. I'll bolt the crossmember I use directly to the top of the bottom frame rail like any 60's or 70 car with a frame did. I also plan to plate the main rails on the inside where these frames tend to weaken then add/replace a few gussets.

Waiting on money for parts again. But, yesterday got the Dana 44 front axle cut down and the spring mount welded into its new home.

It runs! After a complete re-gasket, a hone job, new plugs, new piston rings, and a valve seat cleanup, this thing sounds like a completely different engine. Quick revving, crisp throttle response, and only one minor oil leak where the pan, timing cover and block meet. Easy fix.

And I torched the front prerunner-style bumper off that's been bugging me for the last 15 years.

Next up is a re-design of the plow hydraulics. I'll probably start a build thread on that one. It's an experiment....

  14. Got to some rust removal on Peppy last night. Peppy will soon be stored for the winter and I wanted to tackle more or the rust before I put it away. Whomever painted the yellow did not prime under the paint, so the paint chips right off with my needle scaler.

Not sure what kind of filler I uncovered, seems like an epoxy or some kind of seam glue/sealer. At least I only found one rot hole as pictured. Of course there is probably more rust under the filler, but I'm leaving that alone for now.

With a little chiseling, grinding and drilling I finally removed the hard top from the body and then wiggled the tailgate loose after two weeks of penetrating oil.

There was still some nice fresh factory paint on the drums when I pulled the wheels off.
