Spent most of the day trying to remove the wiring from the S-10. This wiring might be more than I bargained for.

Wiring is pretty simple really. Wires just connect A to B. You just have to make sure the correct A is hooked up to the correct B, then just run the wires where they fit the best.

TBI should be fairly easy too luckily. It may seem like a spaghetti mess at first, but you should find that there will be some common bundles. For instance all the sensors on the engine usually route into one major bundle to go to the computer. There might be another bundle to the dash or maybe a relay box. Sometimes you can get rid of whole sections of wiring harness simply because they are not needed, things like the front headlights and running lights. Wiring diagrams are your friend, get good at reading them, they are the roadmap of what you do and don't need.

Have patience and keep plugging away!

Really haven't done much with it lately. I have replaced the timing chain, new plastic timing cover, and resealed the oil pan. [IMG]

Good luck. That wire harness gave me a headache just looking at the photo.

Out of all the wiring diagrams I have. None that were given to me were helpful. Even the Haynes Manual does not have the right color code for the wiring. I did find a very blurry engine wiring harness pin connector that was really helpful. I'm going to have to get a factory service manual that has a wiring diagram I can use. As for a few wires that go to the dash. I should be able to eliminate half of the wires.
I've gone on line. Looked at a lot of basic TBI wiring harnesses, but none seemed to have both these boxes. What up with that? Is this a one year only thing?

Try your local library for factory manual with wiring diagram, probably the only way to try get a handle on it

Did you try looking up the wiring diagram for the S-10 in the Autozone web site? In the EFI projects I have done, I have found their diagrams to be pretty accurate. Another place to look may be at some of the S-10 forums. Someone there may have a pin out for the ECM you are using.

You figure out your manifold/knock sensor issue yet? Curious as to what you're doing about that.
