What Did You Do To Your Jeep Today?

I changed the oil in Ted. Nothing too exciting. Although, since I had the drain plug out, it might be a good time to put that big block in I have been saving for him.

Well, I don't have an air cleaner nut, so I figured it would be better to start from the bottom up.

 

Today was a productive jeep day. I stripped the bondo, paint, and old brazed on patch panels off of the passenger side. I was surprised there was actually pretty good steel under the patch panels! Rotted along the bottom, but solid through the rocker

The rocker panel was done by a PO, but the rear corners I did myself with a bit of "yankee ingenuity." Its a good example of how anyone can actually fix an old jeep with a bit of can-do attitude. I pop riveted sheet metal in place, fiberglass and bondo'd over it. It looked great and lasted 25 years

 

Today I received the missing transfer case input gear (thanks Todd!) that officially completes my transmission and transfer case rebuild. Praying I don't have any leaks!

The ice cream thread inspired me to remount my PTO too, so ill have 4 shifters

 

More August Colorado trip prep. The radiator leaks and there are no radiator shops closer than Spokane around here. Ended up with a Champion aluminum radiator since it's half the price of a copper one.

However, the shiny, pretty aluminum radiator wouldn't look right in my old beater Jeep, so I put a coat of flat black on it. It and the shroud should go in this weekend.

Champion Radiator was a "bolt on" fit for my CJ (factory V6). But it still did overheat until I put on a good shroud.

 

Got home early. Glassed up my screwup holes in the the body ( two 1/2", four 5/16) My shifter boots came from Summit, make some hold downs and finish paint the trans cover this weekend.

 

Let's hope it actually happens

 

still trying to figure out my the front right brake locks up on my 2a. 11" self adjusting. I think the only thing left to try is swapping the pads to the other side. A few years ago they got wet from a leaky seal. would the oil make them grabby?

 

IME, yes.

 

Using my 2hp/ 10 gallon air compressor and doing a little sand blasting. I don't recommend it . . .

Yeah ,they would be grabby. Just chuck them & put new ones on. PM me if you want , I've got a complete front set of 11" Bendix leftover from my disk conversion.

 

Little things, you know your getting close. Hood hinges, windshield brackets. Had just enough clearance to flip the wiper motors over removing that in your forehead feeling. Made some little z brackets as they couldn't be mounted up flush to the inner frame. BTW this repop windshield is a pos and several times i wanted to chuck it. Everything is just enough out to be a headache.

 

Cool Ill keep that in mind thanks for offering. Im definately going to swap them around first to confirm the problem. Im considering the tracker disc swap aswell but then id swap the drums to the back. I do prefer drums though so maybe not. Well see how it goes.

 

Not enough air pressure. It's like asking a guy in a Camero to race you in your Yugo.

 

My local radiator shop won't do any new work until June, so instead of having my old radiator rodded out, I bought a new aluminum radiator. But as with any quick job it turned into an all day affair. It looks nice but my old radiator measures 26" center to center for the mounting holes. the new radiator measures 25.5" but there is enough to enlarge the holes.
When I put it in it hits the P/S lines and sits 1/2" high on the driver side. Ideally I would like to cut a radius hole and weld in a piece of aluminum pipe...... but I can't weld aluminum, and I am not going to practice on this. So I re drilled the holes and raised the radiator up 1". ......and when the hood closes the hood prop mount hits the radiator. I put a 1/2" spacer to move the radiator closer to the fan and redesigned the prop mount with a hammer.

It looks good now.
Maybe later I'll see about having it modified, when things are back to normal.

 

I had the same problem that the bottom corner of the new radiator hit the PS pump. (mine inside engine compartment) I clearanced the bottom of the radiator with a BFH . Just needed about 1/4" .

 

I thought about that, but I needed 1/2" and I wasn't sure if the aluminum would give that much. There were several weld seams that would have to bend to give me that much room.
