    '81 CJ5 Renegade

Well I got this Jeep to keep me busy this summer among other things and here is my repair of it.

Cut out some carpet, took out the driver seat and ground off some rust and here is what I found

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Tomorrow I plan to clean up a crack on the frame and finish pulling carpet

She has arrived. Pics later. 304 with Edelbrock Torker intake and a Carter 4 barrel, and Some useless headers that I may have to use for now.

Parts are slowly coming in. Got a clutch, throw out bearing, transmission stabilizer bolt, new trans mount, starter, dizzy, and fuel pump. And a power steering bracket from another member here. After all that has arrived the transplant will begin.
Most should come today. Next on the list are seats unless I get them reupholstered.

Parts are taking forever to get here. While waiting I stripped the engine of the old paint and added some new. There is some dirt on the intake still:rofl:

Everything is back together and I will see if it will run off the gas tank.

Hit a road block with the engine, burnt valves or shot piston or cylinder wall. I also have kept track of the money spent and the total is about $1100 plus the cost of the jeep so it is all together so far $2900~$3100. Not as much spent as I expected so far. Kinda a kill joy when the engine started this shenanigans. Only got to drive it 6 feet...

My dad and I finished the wiring last week. Honed the cylinders. Gotta work on the head and get some rings and a piston. School starts Mondaymehh

Good luck in school this year. Don't let the Jeep distract you from your schoolwork , it will all come together down the road. :)

A little update; My dad and I have redone the head and it doesn't leak a bit. Painted the intake manifold and shined up the air filter assembly, and changed the oil in the front and rear ends. So today I ordered the gaskets, piston and rings and a bunch of other stuff. I predict it will be on the road shortly after the engine is finished. I am looking at seats and I think Smitty Built is what I am looking for.
Anyone got any complaints about Smitty Built seats?

I bought a used set of Highback Smitty Builts, I had drill some holes to make them fit on the original mounts. Otherwise they feel good to my back, I got a set of suspension seats also and can't decide which to run. More testing is needed :)

    Keep up the Good work.

I was cleaning up the grill to paint it and found this sticker. I was kinda surprised this was even still on the Jeep. [IMG]

I put the Bestop low backs in my '79. I am happy with them. They replaced a set of Leon Rosser high backs, and needless to say, I am not a fan of high backs in a CJ5. Or 7 for that matter.
