I have used Sherwin Williams Dimension car paint before. Reasonably priced and can be mixed as single stage paint. I have had relatively good results with it for big stationary tools. I have used H/F paint guns and while not professional or top notch for anything, have had fine results with them for shooting car style paint, primers, catalyzed laquer, shellac, etc. You might be able to score a Binks model 18 cup gun or similar on C/L for under 50 bucks. I shot a jeep once using rustoleum commercial coating once. It was fine. Do it yourself.

What about the the HVLP guns? Always used the suction ones.

I use the "HVLP" H/F ones. I don't use them in a way that denotes high volume or low pressure. I have never used a real HVLP . i have used the suction style cup guns to shoot stuff. My favorite though is a pressure pot. You put your paint in a pressurized vessel with flexible fluid lines to the gun. you can then paint upside down or a any angle. I have painted hundreds of gallons of paint in this manner. the only drawback is that you lose the volume of paint in the lines when you clean the system out. I got my Binks pressure pot for 75 bucks and that included the gauges. I then bought a Binks 2001 gun and fluid and air line. in the end I was out under 300 bucks and have used it many times. H/F makes a 2 quart pot.

Got it painted and assembled, finally in the home stretch. A few minor things and a top and it's ready for the road. Thanks for the help along the way!

That looks great. And my favorite color too. What Green is that, if i may ask. Did you end up painting it yourself?

Painted it myself using Kirker Mack green. Not perfect but the total cost was under $500 including new spray guns.

Glad to know the color is available somewhere. I am told it's no longer available through Mack, where I got mine many years ago. It's about my favorite shade of green. Under 500 bucks and you have tools that you'll use again. That's a bargain in my book. Nice work.

Just remembered I need to put a parking brake in. Was thinking of a handle on the floor between the seats. Has anyone done this? Photos? I have a D20 Tcase and a D44 rear axle.

Cool. I may redo my dash. It's peeling badly. And my hood hinges are faded pretty bad. Did them with rattle can Mack paint. It hasn't held up as well as the the rest of the JEEP.

From what I've seen, yes. My top is a best top and the stitching is coming apart. Of course it's also 20+ years old. BestTop won't sell me just the top, I have to buy a whole new set with hardware, bows, brackets, etc. For a few dollars more I can get a repro military top and hardware and I like the look better anyway. It's on the never ending list.....

The M38A1 has a parking brake handle between the seats. Google should show you some pictures. It directly activates the drum brake on the back of the Dana18.
