Thanks to everyone who has contributed their information to the VIN project so far! Without forum members contributions, we wouldn't have near the information we currently have in the document.

Just so people know, Myself, Randy ($ SINK) and Mike (wyomike) are just forum members like most people here. We all had an interest in narrowing down build dates from serial numbers, and ended up starting this project to achieve that goal. I don't know how many hours we've spent on this project, but it's been quite a few. If we don't make changes very often, please understand it's because we are simply busy with other priorities in our lives.

"Where's my VIN", "How do I decode my VIN", "What year is my Jeep", etc were all posts the forum would see fairly often. We figured making the VIN document would help people answer those questions for themselves. Not everyone's VIN will appear in the document as we try to find the earliest and latest VIN for a given month. If your VIN is BETWEEN two VINs already listed for a given month, it will not be shown in the build date / VIN number section. If you don't have a dash sticker to verify your build month and year, your VIN probably won't appear in the build date / VIN number section unless it helps us narrow down a model year transition. We DO appreciate everyone's contribution, and will use your data to help narrow down other production changes also. If members want an owners list showing everyone's VIN and other info, we could probably compile that, but we would have to go back and ask everyone who's contributed so far if making their information public on the WWW is ok with them. Right now, I'm not able to make that time commitment. I'd rather start adding the VIN info and build dates for the other models including Jeepsters.

My CJ5 VIN number is 57548124739
It is registered as a 1961 CJ5 but due to the fact that the Tub has been replaced with a fiberlass Tub it has no original manufacturer id plates.
I will post the other numbers as I find them.

My Firewall data plate Drivers's side reads 2405024-37508 Jeep Corporation, Toledo, Ohio. I know this number doesn't make any sense. I think my Jeep may be an amalgamation of different vehicles. I can't yet find a number on the frame except what looks like a 'DD', a '22' and a '110' or similar. Any help will be appreciated!

yeah, that's an odd number. should be one on the upper right hand frame rail just under where the battery is mounted.

.........I've been looking at the side of the frame rails instead of the top! Tomorrow I'll take the body tub off and then after breakfast..........

here goes,and i believe that this info is correct as i am the third registered owner,previous owner bought this 1970 jeep in 1977,vin#8305015 273284, mfg date june 1970,type multipurpose passenger vehicle this is exactaly how the sticker on the dash reads #on firewall matches have not taken a look at the frame yet

interisting tidbit: my notes say that according to the Jeep Illustrated Buyers Guide, the 71 model year started with 273245 (got that off the forum somewhere). looks like you proved that wrong... any way you could send a pic of the sticker??

the model year changed on 01 Sept, so the June date would be a 70.

hey sink, i was updating my profile i saw my vin was wrong.the vin# is
8305017 361262 it is titled as a 1970.bob

Bob, thanks for postin. your build date is Sept 1969 which would be correct for a 70 model year. do you have hood mounted marker lights or fender mounted?

i have hood mounted reflecters.they are 6 sided and very hard to find.it might not be the corrct hood because it dosen't meet the grill right.bob
