Been computerless for a few days so haven't been able to update.

On my 76 CJ5 I removed the top for the rest of the year and replaced it with a Bikini top, converted it back from an electric fuel pump to a mechanical setup.

On the 78 I'm working on for someone else. I pulled the carb down for cleaning/rebuild. The owner said that he had someother shop rebuild the carb after getting a bunch of junk in the fuel tank. The shop that farmed it out to me said they got it to run but the carb wouldn't stop puking up fuel. Well when I pulled the carb apart it was missing the float and needle. No wonder it was puking fuel up everywhere. :/

Got most of the carb dipped in carb cleaner for a while. Parts came in today but I'll work more on it tomorrow.

Pulled the thermostat to flush out the block and found the water pump front bearings to be totally trashed. Fan had a ton of play in all directions. So pulled the fan and water pump as well and ordered up some more parts.

Missing the float and needle? I suppose if the mechanic grew up working on EFI a carb may be a complete mystery.

Ooo. I also got these in from Rock Auto. Not sure on their age, can't find any lot numbers or the like but the packing and stuff is certainly older. New enough to have a barcode on the main box though.

If you’re taking a copilot, wire in another horn button for them. That’s their job!

I was going to tape an air horn to the dash bar but for $20 I went ahead and bought a real horn. I'll be riding solo more than likely.

Got my tag/title today. I managed to cut a 20 minute drive in half and get the paperwork done in 8 minutes. I walked out of the building at 5 on the dot (when they close). After a year I can get an antique tag. Eventually, I'll do something better for a tag mount.

Welded on a tab, used existing holes for the base, and have the top locked to the new trail basket.

That's a cool build, but the tag mount shouldn't be a worry. The AMC square taillights need to go though. 3B's need round taillights!

They were advertised as "trailer tail lights" but I knew what they were really for. My thinking is the higher those lights are mounted the better chance some dummy can see them and not crash into the back of me, and the tub isn't likely to fall off where they're mounted. :)

i think that thing is well past the point of what a 3B "should" be.

Nah. It's mostly stock if you think about it.

Now that I have driven it on the road more and racked up 136 miles I have a real progress report.
I'm pleasantly surprised the 3B can hold a straight line at 50 mph, doesn't wander all over the road, or shake. At 50 it's at 2500 rpm which is fine with me since I never intended to drive it on the street much anyhow but that ol' fhead had a little more to give and that's with a pretty good headwind. Did fine around town in stop and go traffic. I was worried about the 4.88's not being enough gear but they seem fine and are starting to grow on me. The disc brakes and Saginaw power steering are tenfold better than my old ross box and 11x2 drums on the 2A. This thing pulls great up to 4k and that's about all the engine has to give. I need to check and see if the distributor is advancing and how much. Compared to my old YJ and Zuk which had YJ springs, of course, it soaks up the bumps much better and there isn't noticeable body sway as the Zuk had but it was on 35's so maybe that was one reason for its body sway.

Things I need to address sometime:
D20 output is making noise and is loose. The noise is most noticeable while coasting. Also, I need to replace the front output seal. I've had a gasket/seal kit for 2 years sitting in a box.
Drill out the two broken exhaust bolts and install an exhaust gasket. I have copper rtv on there now which is doing a pretty good job considering I have missing exhaust bolts.
Higher fill plug diff cover for the D44 and find out why it's leaking from the axle tube. I have a feeling that the axle shaft might be slightly bent. I hope to go FF in the future so I'll keep adding gear oil for the time being.
Change the engine oil and add a magnet to the plug. It leaks so much I practically changed the oil already since I've added over 4 quarts to it since it has been running.
Change the oil in the T98. It looked ok but it's cheap insurance to change it.
My rubber engine mounts are already starting to split so that garbage has to go. I'll leave it for the time being but it'll be addressed eventually.
Need to find a spare wheel to mount my spare tire on.

This weekend I plan to take it off road somewhere to make sure it doesn't fall apart and if all goes well then I can set my sights on the miler. :sneak: I didn't really have plans for doing it since the jeep was nowhere near "legal" at the time and I pretty much had to redo most of what I had already done and add more stuff but the idea bounced around my head and the more I thought about it the more I wanted to do it.
And special thanks to Itlksez for letting this wreck come to life and behind the scenes tech support.

I really like these lights. they are known around here as Grote's, available from pretty much any trailer supply place. I have never been able to tear them off! LOL. you need a special flasher though if you use them as blinkers. Will.

A week of sitting with the evenfire 231/th350/d300 and this is my shackle angle with 200lbs of dauntless flywheel stacked up. Who says Rancho's aren't stiff.....

Guess I'll need a 4x4 tube bumper, winch, and highlift jack to get something reasonable :madwife:
