I had a noise similar to that in my 231 that I recently put in my 3B. I crawled around, over, under with a stethoscope, and finally decided it was just inside the front of the oil pan. When I pulled the pan, I found the front 2 rod cap nuts were hitting the inside of the oil pan. The pan did not looked deformed at all. A few licks with a bfh, put the pan back on and no more noise.
    YMMV

Washed it for the first time since I’ve owned it today! It’s been about a year and a half but this paint was already shot when I got it. Considering a Comet wash to further get oxidation off the top layer now.

... it’s supposed to be red but I guess it’s kinda Indian Ceramic?

After stacking 300 bales of hay at 95° and 100% humidity , got the valve covers off and tore up some old t-shirts. Let you know tomorrow...

Use a power buffer and a good polish I recommend turtle wax black polish and then wax you would be surprised at the results . Do not use rubbing compound.

Have you tried any running compound? I wonder if you used something like Mequiar’s Ultimate Compound what it would do to that paint. Just a thought (y) What a great Jeep!

I’ve thought about a few techniques that the internet says will “fix” old single stage paint. A Comet wash seems to be the quickest instant gratification. I figure that if it doesn’t work out it shouldn’t hurt anything anyhow!

I disconnected the ps pump since it whines and is leaking again ( throwing it through the window at flaps later) starts right up 10lbs at idle, idles fine. Noise kicks in about 1800 rpm. Lifters / rockers look good, plenty of oil up top. Revs fine. Ideas?

Def seems drivers front. Pulling plug wires drivers bank doesn't change anything.

Are all the accessories disconnected? I’ve had bad power steering pumps and alternators make that noise before.

It really sounds deeper/heavier than a top end issue to me.

No more mystery. Rod bearing out on 2 , 1 not looking hot. Crank scored. Only thing I can figure is from sitting the assembly lube deteriorated. Note to self, even with proper assembly go through engines that have been sitting. I guess that even fire on the floor is going in. Maybe it's a sign the 327 and Muncie should go in the next project. Fire sale the commando 400 off to Chris...

BTW, anyone got an even fire flywheel?

:gaah:current thinking is to pull the engine. If the rod ends are not beat up get a crank kit. Current one is 10/20 so it's toast..

About 4 years ago I backed my CJ5 up into the garage of my new house with a broken tooth on the reverse idler, blown passenger front wheel bearings and brakes and put it on jackstands.

I know 2 of these are from a coworker but I forgot which 2. I don't recall who gave me the other pair. Concrete floors are great!
