Got a new 100A Powermaster. And some pie.
Ordered front inner and outer wheel bearings, spindle bearings, ball Joints, axle u-joints, front pinion seal, and some fancy Eastwood AMC blue ceramic engine paint (spray gun type)
Today I spent way too much time getting little brackets and things primered.
With paint I'm quickly realizing how much my "shop" limits me. Redoing parts because I'm not noticing missed spots or thin coats due to bad lighting, waiting for days warm enough to paint, spending a half hour getting tools out each time, etc. It's maddening.
I spent yesterday and today trying to put the Jeep back together after my attempt at painting it. I had to build a frame to mount the TJ seats to, as well as trim some of the foam and cut the two rods off each side for the tumbler feature because they made the bottom of the seat 40" wide. Too wide to fit in the back of a '62, . But I overcame.
I was not able to put my sticker on the tailgate for two reasons. 1st the sticker is too big. 2nd I will eventually buy a new Tailgate as this one is pretty much toast. Someone drilled holes in it at one point and mounted a spare over the Willys Badge, and it stress cracked all around it.
Next on the list is to get the new wiring harness installed. And hopefully start putting a few miles on it.
Thank you. It was nice to be able to pay homage to my Dad the man who introduced me to Jeeps in 1984. It makes sense that the sticker is on the hood, so he can look down and smile.
I like it, you are very creative! What is the story on the steering wheel covering?
It is paracord. There were several splits in the plastic or whatever he black material is. So w wrapped it in paracord. I seen on another post someone fixed there’s with body filler. I may do that one day but the paracord actually gives the week some texture. I made two grab handles and covered the grab bar as well. I haven’t installed the grab bar on the wood dash yet.
5 wheel drive?
It was what my Dad would say when we put the Scrambler in 4wd. I would say Dad there are only 4 wheels. He would say what about the steering wheel.
He past away in November just shy of 85th Birthday. Man I miss him
From your pic's, your tail gate does not look very 'Toasty' ? For the price of a new one, I would plug the holes with some push in type plugs & paint it yellow ?
I Dunno, Just Say'n
I will snap a close up.
Cool story though! Life is about memories made!
Absolutely true. And Dad and I made a ton of memories. I cherish every one of them.
Painted the JEEP and WILLYS logos
Well done! Did you do it by hand? I used on of these:
I’ve heard it done by hand, a roller, foam brush, and also stickers. Also, it is my understanding from a recent documentary that the Jeeps of this era never came painted white or black from factory but rather painted at the dealership. It looks great painted
I did it by hand with a foam brush I cut to 5/16” wide. I used Rustoleum gloss black enamel paint.
Went for coffee this morning.
