Super Swamper TSL Radial Thoughts

I had 35" x 15.5 x 15 super swamper SX.
I like them alot.

 

My old roommate has 32x10.50 tsl radials on his cherokee and he really likes them alot. Said they ride very well and of course work great offroad. I'll prob end up putting a set on the TJ once I get a little lift under it.

 

Not sure about the radials, but the standard bias ply tires suck in ice/hardpack snow. I think they're way too hard for it.

Work great in the mud though.

Radials should work better in winter conditions.

 

cat has 33X12.5X15 on her YJ... do very well, not to noisy, but on wet roads... hold on...

 

Siping helps a lot on these in wet conditions or ice/snow.

Sparky they ware out to fast for my liking.
Good tire but as stated on wet roads they slide easy.

Yes, tighter pattern, softer sidewalls, better ride. Radials have to squat a little to get a good tread-to-road contact. This also improves ride. Bias tires are just plain workhorses and nearly puncture proof sidewalls.

I have probably 2000 tow-bar miles. No noticeable wear.

I've got 33 x 12.50 x 15. As far as I'm concerned they are the very best balance between off road performance and everything else. The only "weakness" is the side wall strength - you could rip one open on a rock or tree root but I've not had that problem yet. The bias ply are stronger but ride very rough - may be better for a heavy rig. Boggers are better in the mud but are not worth having to live with unless you do a lot of mud. I got mine siped all the way across - next time I may just get siping on the center tread.

I had 33x12.5x15 radial tsls and thought they were a pretty good tire. They're kinda an odd ball though. Since they are radials they are not a "serious" off road tire, at least not in california. But, there aggressive tread pattern makes them less streetable. The center treads on the radials of that size have very close tread blocks not at all like the bias tsls. That should make them quite, but they are not, espicially as they age. They still flatspotted etc.... They are however much better than the unbalanced 36" tsl bias plys I currently have on the jeep. I have to admit I was never unhappy with the radials, put a lot of good miles on them. Still have'em on the side of the house.

To me the ultimate streetable tire is the goodyear mtr. Very good traction on rock and asphalt, relatively moderate tread that rides good, and a very durable radial tire. They only thing it sucks in is mud.

there is a guy here running the trXus and really likes them. it is just hard to get past the look and "feel" of the good ole tsl. you don't really want that jeep riding like a caddy, do you? but then again, that's an eb man's opinion for what its worth.

 

Don't forget...I have the TrXus too, and I also have problems with bad vibration above 55 and have been told and have even seen them spinning on a balance machine that they're out of round.

Don't know why that happened since there's only about 2000 miles on them.

One thought I had was that maybe those KH wheels I bought were/are a little bit out of round and subsequently passed on the same out of roundness to the tires.

They were smooth as glass and very quiet with the aluminum wheels I had (Thanks Boyink).

I remember when I had them installed on the KH wheels, the man at the tire store said they took way too may weights to get them balanced. Not so on the aluminums.
