I got the ignition wired in and it will start the jeep but when I turn it to off it will not kill the motor. I havent put a hole in the dash yet so the ignition is just hanging down. Does it need to be grounded or what else could the problem be?

Sound like it's wire wrong. I'm not sure of your set up, but I think it should shut off the power to the coil.

I agree with scott. Something is wired incorrectly. It may be a bad switch also. I bought a new one and it acted up (wouldn't disengage the starter). I took it back and got another. It works fine.

I figured it out there was a constant power wire to the accessorie side of the ignition switch  but got it figured out thanks for the tips.

There should be constant power through the Acc side but it shouldn't be hooked to the coil.

Ok I don't know all the tech part of this but I will tell you what I do know from experience with mine. When I installed a 1 wire Delco alternator in place of the Motorola alternator I had the same problem. My alternator was wired right and so were the wires I removed from my voltage regulator. I took it to 2 places that I knew of and they could not find anything wrong with it. I was then sent to a 3rd shop, I explained this to the guy and his 1st words were you have a motorola alt, I said yes , he preceded to a get resistor and a portable soldering iron, pulled my ignition wires down soldered the resistor in place on one of the wires, charged me $10 and it has worked fine since then. He said that the Motorola alternators on these motors and the corresponding harnesses were wired different internally then most and that they relied on the voltage regulators to break the power to the ignition, the delco unit did not have this feature, the resistor solved this problem, that was 9 years ago or so.
Know matter how I wired the 1 wire alternator it did the same thing until this guy did his little thing!!

I do have constant power to the acc side the problem was that there was a wire that was conected the wrong side of the volt meter from the alternator so it had constant power. This wire was spliced in with the with the wire to the BATT + side of the DUI distributor so when you went to turn the key off the distributor was still getting power. Its all fixed now. Now I just need to rewire the rear lights and see whats going on with that. This is my first time wiring and its not as hard as I expected it to be. Just follow the chart and it should work R)

It sounds to me like your alternator is powering your electrical system after the ignition is shutoff.
