OK I guess my questions will never end.... while draining the transfer case, diff's and tranny I figured I would do some research and figure out exactly what I had in the Beast. My tranny turns out to be a 66 - 68 muncie that was designed for cars not 4x4's .... shoudl I worry about it and try to find a donor to swap out with or just dfrive it till it quits.
I HATE the hurst linkage on this thing ... it is driving me nuts trying to get adjusted where it doesn't pop out of one gear or another on the downshift... works great on upshifts but depending on how I adjust it it pops out of 2nd or 3rd while down shifting. The 4x4 tranny's are top loaders and not side linkage aren't they?

early flatfenders and dispatcher jeeps (unsure about others) used a side loader t-90. the muncie seems to have been a common swap. tranny might need rebuild if it jumps out of gear, or could be the linkage is wornout and needs replaced also?

Yep they're all top loaders. The only thing bad about your trans is the gear ratios are gonna be less then optimal, but it is a stout trans. I would drive it till you had everything ready to change or it breaks unless it becomes a serious problem wheelin it.

You should also fill out your profile in the signature so we know what you got as far as a motor and such.

I had the Saginaw 4 speed in mine. The only saving grace was that I had 5:38's otherwise the ratios in the trans would have sucked, for offroading.
