My buick 350 that I built is finally in with everything hooked up and it won't seem to run right. It will only run when choked. All it needs is a hair of choke though. as soon as no choke it sputters out. Plugged up carb? Bad vacum? Also, now that I have my aluminum radiator it seems to run a little hot. just a hair under the H. Air bubble in the system? How much fluid does a full system take? Thanks guys Zach

Have you adjusted the idle mixture screws? Sounds a little lean on the idle circut

Does it stall even at higher RPM's or only at idle? Could also be a major vacuum leak somewhere too. Base gasket leak, carb to small, float level to low. what type of carb. I have actually had floats stick shut on a holley before.
Have you run it long enough to see water flow in the radiator. Could be air bubbles. I like drilling a hole in my stats to help bleed off air.

Did you mill the heads or deck the block when you did the rebuild? if the answer is yes, I'll be a dollar to a doughnut that you have a leaking intake manifold gasket. Put a vacuum gauge directly on the intake manifold (not the carb base) and see whatcha got. If it is less than about 16lbs on a new engine at idle, you've got issues.

The problem is that milling the heads moves them closer together than when they are stock. That, and the crappy stamped aluminum sheet that is allegedly an intake manifold gasket.

To fix it, remove the intake from the engine and throw away the end gaskets. Lay a nice, thick bead of blue RTV silicon gasket maker on the end ridges of the block and use a good set of aftermarket (Mr. Gasket) intake gaskets on the ports. I used to use Permatex spray gasket sealer on the gaskets and stick them to the manifold and then drop the whol production down into the semi-hardened RTV. Works every time! ;)

As for it running hot, did you turn on the heater so that the fluid runs through the entire cooling system?
