Is there an easier way to get the brake drums off my 69 CJ5? From the service manual, it looks like they come off with the hubs and require a puller. These are the original axles, Dana 27 front and 44 rear. I did a topic search and didn't come up with anything, so I'm hoping it's somehow easier?
    Thanks!

Yes, I just did the rears on my 65 cj5 with the dana 44. I had to use a puller to remove them, and it was still not easy. Sorry, I know it was not the answer you were looking for.

YEP, get a "good puller",they can be a bear even with the puller.

    Man, I don't know why a search didn't turn up a bunch....:?

E-bay has some old "OTC" pullers, from time to time. Some guys I know also ,have had to use 5 legs on the puller. They were on OLD stuff, none were Jeeps that I know of.They come with 3 legs,as a set....NEW.

The fronts come off with the hub. No need to separate them unless you need to replace them. The rears need the puller, as described above. There's lots of discussion of this in older posts.

The search tuned up lots of brake work discussions, mostly upgrading to bigger drums or disks, which isnt a bad idea. Anyway, the good news is that the fronts do come of easily (thanks!) and I found a neighbor with a 66 CJ5 that did the brakes on it many years ago AND bought some "special tools" I can borrow. I've got my fingers crossed. Thanks again guys!

Don't try to wing it. The wrong puller can bend a drum. Use the kind piffey263 showed.

Are you just trying to get the drums off or are you pulling the hubs as well?

If a brake job is your objective, note that the shop can easily turn the drums without removing them from the hubs. They will measure to see if there is enough thickness to turn. When you get them back, you must clean out all the old grease - it will be full of brake turnings.

Yes, brake work is all I need. I have two stuck brake pistons. I'm hoping the shoes and drums are okay, since there are only 12000 miles on them. Of course, you never know until the drums come off.
