4-Way flashers kit

While cleaning out my parent's garage, I found an old 4-Way flasher (hazard?) unit. It looks like an add-on kit from when all cars didn't have them. Its got to be about 30 or 40 years old, so I thought it would be a perfect addition to my 69 CJ5, which doesn't have them. It will mount nicely in one of the blank holes in the dash. Unfortunately, the directions are long gone.

It has one red wire with a fuse, so I'm pretty sure that's the power. But it also has four identical blue wires with small plastic wire crimps (or whatever you call them). Any suggestions what they would connect to? I would guess they must somehow tie into the turn signal wires.

    Any help would be appreciated.

A photo would be nice to see. No doubt the wire with the fuse is power. Is the flasher part of the unit?

That is really quite simple. You will have to put power (full time) to a 2 prong flasher, where the power will connect to the "X" terminal, then connect your fused wire from the 4 way to the "L" terminal on the flasher. The other 4 wires will then connect to each of the wires going to each light that is being fed by the turn signal switch. Now some of the early 4 way flasher kits had a socket built into the rear of the switch for the 2 prong flasher to plug into so in that case the fused wire would connect to BAT terminal on the ign switch.

I saw a Nos Sigflare sell just a few days ago for about $200. It was an older one with a glass end

OK so the wire with the fuse will go to a battery hot that stays hot all the time. The other wires all have the same color because the switch doesn't care whether left or right or front or back. Determine which wire comes from the stop switch and mark it. Then determine which wire comes from the flasher "L" terminal and mark it. Then determine which wire comes from the "P" terminal on the flasher and mark it. That leaves you with 4 wires from the turn signal switch unmarked. These will be the four wires you will attach to the four blue wires on your 4 way. Doesn't matter which goes where.

I've got one too, and the description (color of wires, one fused, red wire) sounds the same. I'd tell you how mine is wired up, but I haven't gotten the electrical system figured out yet. Here's a pic of the knob on mine:

Walt, that's exactly what I needed to know, thanks. A quick look under the dash and I could find all three wires you mentioned. You guys are great!
