   What if any difference is there in these oil pumps minus the direction of the gear? It says it depends on the vin number my last 5 on mine is 38993. Would it be easy as buying the cheaper one and switching the gear from mine over?
   
   Gonna pull mine tomorrow and see what mine is exactly but it should be the 178.99 unit

   The only thing I can think of is the difference between an early L-head and a late L-head. The early ones drove the cam via chain and the later ones drove it with gears like the F-head. The cam spins in the opposite direction with the chain drive so the oil pump drive is different.
