    Hello all,

Just wanted to thank all of you for your help on my previous questions, you've been really helpful. I have one more question for you guys. I'm looking to a do a leaf over axle lift on my 71 CJ5, however, I cannot seem to find perches. I find everything for a 76 on up CJ but nothing for the earlier CJ's. Will a universal weld on perch work? If so, how wide do I need them, they sell them from 1 3/4" up to 3" wide. Keep in mind I'm using stock leaf springs nothing from the Wrangler years. Also in doin this would a drop pitman be recommended? I'm also using 2" lift heavy duty shackles. Not sure what the total lift would be after all of this. I was also thinkin of using an add a leaf to get an extra inch or so. Let me know your input. Thanks,
    Mike :)
P.S. I know all about the rollover risk, I will be going with wider tires and possibly a rim spacer.

FWIW, and I'll just throw this out, IMHO this isn't a smart way to add height - especially the extended shackles.

You'll fight spring wrap from the SOA and excessive wander from shackles 4" longer over stock (4" is necessary to get 2" of lift from shackles).

How much tire are you planning to put on -- Why not just a simple 4" spring lift?

Ditto on what mike said. Not a fan of extended shackles--and I've only got 1.5". Adds too much leverage to spring perches.

    Just my .02 worth.

I was just looking for a cheap somewhat easy lift, I really want to be able to put 35"s on it with not much of a rubbing concern if possible. A friend of mine has a SOA lift on their later CJ w/ some cheapo shackles not meant for a jeep that I'm guessin are at least a 2" shackle lift. Rides like a brick, steering binds something fierce, guessing they used stock shocks and no drop pitman or is that how SOA lifts are?

I would never consider a SOA an "easy" lift. Unless your '71 has saginaw steering conversion, a dropped pitman doesn't apply. The simplest would be as suggested, a 4" spring lift.

Keep in mind you'll get lift from the thickness of the perch, the diameter of the axle and the thickness of the spring pack. Your total lift will be a lot, way more than you'll need. Other guys of course have done it, not for me though. With a 2.5" lift you can run 33s easily. With 35s you'll only gain 1" ground clearance, not worth the effort in my book. Plus your driveshafts will be too short and you'll need CV joints.

    Thanks guys,

Ok, I think I'll just stick with the 2" shackle lift since I already have them and an add a leaf lift for like maybe 1.5" more. Should be enough for 33"s. I gotta keep in mind my little dauntless V-6 is what is pushing those tires. Thanks for the info.
