After telling others that brake upgrades are important, I think it is time to put my money where my mouth is. I have thought about 11" versus disks, I figure if I am going to tear it apart, I might as well go all the way to disks. Disks are better in wet conditions and MUCH easier to work on.

Anyway, I have some questions I would be grateful for any feed back on.

    1. Has anybody used this disk brake conversion kit?
    http://www.quadratec.com/products/22700_08.htm

    2. Most of the "modern" cars I own or have owned has disks in front, drums in the rear. Is it really that important to convert the rear axle to disks on a jeep?

    3. Any other brands of conversion kits you would recommend?

    Thank You!

I like my 4 wheel discs but not "necessary" if you have 11" in the rear. I've installed a couple SSBC kits (not on Jeeps) and while they work fine there was a lot of goofing around with spacers and such.
For less money you might consider checking out R&P 4 WD Parts Inc. a simple search will bring up their kits on the web site. They have a rear disc conversion as well that can be had with or without park brake calipers. Both kits about as close to bolt on as you can get and use all new parts...

Edit: one other thing. If you have 11" backing plates that are rebuildable they will give you credit for those.....

I agree with Nick on the R&P. You can source parts cheaper some times, but time is worth something to me. When I got my parts for rears from R&P, Paul told me to save some money on shipping and told me which calipers I needed (and he was out so it was going to be a while for him to get them)... Got them from Rock Auto, on sale, way cheap :)

They will mix and match what you need with what you can get local if you ask.

Wow this is all great info. I really like the write up in the archives, that is very explanatory. I think I will use that as a guide line, get what I can from the salvage yard, then go to R&P.

First job is getting permission from the boss, but I'll remind her it is for safety and the daughter will be driving in a few years. Sounds good anyway.

    Thanks all!

I used all junkyard stuff and a ton of help from this board. There are some great threads on this forum to help along the way. Like someone said if you have the dual M/C you should be good but make sure it is plumbed correctly. Rear port (closest to plunger) to front brakes, front to rear brakes. Also very key to use organic brake pads.

I did my own with junkyard caliper brackets for half of what the Quadratech kit goes for. X2 on the organic pads. Most preloaded calipers are going to have metallic pads. They only work well if you have power assist.
