Hi. I am looking at a 1964 CJ5 that has been modified. Any help would be appreciated. The serial number is 8305166620. Any vin decoder's for this year? This is what the ad says:

327 Vet engine, new Holley Intake and Carb, new soft top, 35" tires, rims, new springs and shocks, brakes, fiberglass front end w/ winch, well maintained, runs and looks great!

The pic has a CJ6 body. I am going to get more info, ie axles, gearing, tranny, etc. Anything specific I should ask about? I am fairly new to the Jeep market. Oh I have had Jeeps before CJ7, cherokee, etc. However, when it comes to the nuts and bolts of a Jeep and specifics I am a rookie. What about this engine?

If anyone would like a pic let me know. It may help. What is this worth? It looks like I can get for mid 3000.

    Thanks

    Kevin

    $3K?

Whaddya doing sitting here typing? I'd be at the bank...

That's a beautiful 6. Well worth that kind of money...if it checks out as nice in person as it looks.

The VIN# situation is a bit funny...are you sure this is a 5 that has been stretched, or could it be a mis-titled 6?

My '64 CJ6 serial has a 8405 preface...the VIN pages at CJ3B seem to be down at the moment so I can't follow up on the vin you posted.

Definitely looks good. Is the seller saying it's modified? That he stretched the frame?

I want to go NOWWWWWWW!!!! But how do I tell my 4 little kids that Daddy wants to leave on XMAS to go get a jeep. A XMAS they will never forget as well as myself. I have the money now I am hoping not too many other people are Jeep shopping on XMAS. Eight hour drive for me. I think getting it here will be the problem. Anyone have any towing tips. I will be using a 99 Suburban and U-haul seems out of the question. Will I have to get an auto transport company? Or can I use a cargo trailer. This sucker is pretty lifted. Driving it back may be a course of action, but I am always nervous of driving a "new" vehicle that distance without taking a really good look at it home. Any suggestions.

    Thanks

    Kevin

Looks good- It looks to me like the front wheels don't sit in the fenderwells quite right, like they're back a little too far. Maybe it's the 'glass front clip. Looks good, tho!!!

What kind of cargo trailer are thinking about using?
I use an 18' utility trailer and it works fine.

Patrick, I think that its because of the picture angle and the fact that there 35" tires.

Ok. I decided to let this one go. There is too many mods done to this for me to feel right about purchasing this. Although I like the look of it, it is not practical right now. Hell, it could have a commando frame and drivetrain under there. I have seen talk of this being possible on other boards. Especially with the 327 V8. If someone is interested I can send the link or phone number to the guy. Thanks for all your help.

On a different I am starting a thread on an unmolested CJ-6 possible Tux. See thread for more details

    Thanks

    Kevin
