    mornin all!

i searched the previous threads on this, but didnt find what i was looking for, so i have a question

i have converted to 85 CJ7 WT axles with disc brakes and i DO have the extended lines from goodridge...

my problem is this... the lines REACH the calipers, but because of the rigid shoulder on the attachment point on the line, it will not flex enough to go INTO the caliper without bending it...

i figure i can use an adapter (probably a 90*) to make it work, but i dont know the flare on the goodridge line... is it 45* or 37*... i would ASSUME its 45* only because its an off-the-shelf item...

i know speedway motors sells adapters and such, so the source is no problem...

my question is this... how do i determine the flare in * and how do i determine the diameter of the fitting?

i dont want to end up with a bunch of stuff i cant use

    thanks peoples!

have a great friday!! :easy rider:

Have you looked up the number of your hose on their website? Should tell you the threads/taper. They also have the banjo adapters which I would use.

The inlet on the calipers are probably not flare fittings, which is where the banjo bolts come in, and will give you the 90 degree connection you are looking for. I believe the CJ calipers have 7/16x20 inlet threads. Double check the part numbers, I have a goodridge steel braided line that is listed as a stock replacement but it has a 45* on one end and a 37* on the other. They included a fitting to adapt the 37* end to the stock 45* wheel cylinder.

hey 74.. It looks like maybe we have the same kit.. My fronts are P/N D-FBL-46.. And it looks like a banjo fitting will do the trick.. Speedway has the 7/16x20 bolt and fitting.. And I may even be able to get it at flaps... I have pix but I'm sending this from my phone cuz I'm in the garage as I am typing this... I ll look int it, and thanks peoples for all of your input.. I'll post pix over the weekend

Can someone please tell me the difference btwn AN3 and AN4?

I am not sure of the part number of the kit I have, it's been a few years. Don't forget the crush washers for the banjo bolts, should be included, but just in case. AN4 physically larger, the goodridge lines I have are AN3.

    Hey peoples...

did some research over the weekend and it seems that the AN system is based on x/16ths of an inch... AN-3 being 3/16 and AN-4 being 1/4 (4/16)...

i ll have to look and see what my lines are so i can find the correct banjo fittings for the same...

thanks everyone for your input.. i ll also be posting about my T150 teardown and rebuild with some questions there as well...

i ll be looking for opinions on Herm's rebuild kits vs the packages available from Novak and Quadratec... until then, heres the pix i have of the goodridge lines and the fitting questions... just for reference...

    thanks again!!

    the fittings...

    the problem...

    the part number/packaging...

im thinking its because of the fact that the axles are from an 85 and the lines are for a 76-78...

will adding a banjo fitting fix the problem?

Its hard to tell from the pics but if you are using a thin disc CJ caliper with the inlet on the bottom, a banjo bolt should solve the problem.

The fitting in the pic is for a drum brake wheel cylinder. You need the fitting for the banjo bolt fitting. Many aftermarket SS hose manufacturers build the hoses to use a wide array of fittings to fit many applications. That's what you have here. Just a matter of getting the correct adapter fittings to match your calipers.

I was very impressed with the Goodridge hoses I bought for my Jeep. Reasonably priced, and the quality looked to be pretty good.

I did keep the little tag that came in one of the kits that said the hoses were DOT approved. The state inspection stations here in PA can be fussy about stuff like this, and there was no marking anywhere on the hoses that said they were DOT, so I laminated the tag and put it in the glovebox with the registration.

Got the fittings from SpeedWay Motors... its a fit!

3/8-24 AN-3 banjo kit (for 2 calipers) $30 and the keeper clips (the horseshoes that hold the BIG fittings to the tabs) $10 for 5 (weld-on style)...

thanks all for pointing me in the right direction of the fittings i needed!

Glad it worked out. Looks like you got a good deal, I paid a little more than that at the local speed shop.
