I was looking for drawings with the different specs.

I have a 3a that seems to have been transplanted onto a early cj-5 frame..

    I have the 225 v-6, t-86 (PO destroyed it...!!!),dana 18 t case, dana 27 front, dana 44 rear,

all of these i believe to be cj-5 engine and driveline...seeing as the engine mounts appear to be stock.

other than that the front cross member is not the tubular one like on the 3b frame that I have sitting in my garage.

also the rear "v" frame brace sticks out past the body.

this picture of a 3a note how the frame is somewhat flush...

    what is correct?

am I reading into this too much, or do i get super sleuth points for my keen eye....?

    let's see pic of yours
    how are your springs mounted?
    u-shaped hangars of straight shackles?
    how are the shocks mounted?
    battery tray?
I have stock CJ V6 mounts installed on my 2A

I have straight shackles. At first i thought that this was because someone had swapped them over to a newer style.

my front crossmember looks like this one.

and the rear looks like this

another thing that clued me in, was the fact that the rear tow hitch thing that mounts to the rear bumper. It's bolted to the bumper like it should, but underneath the rear end of the jeep it should be bolted to the next rear crossmember back, but those braces don't reach and are welded on. I was thiking cj-5s had the gas tank in the back so there would have to be extra room in that area for the tank so there would be a larger distance from the rear bumper to the next crossmember.

some quick measurements this morning (hub to hub) is 81"
if I'm correct that is what an early cj-5 should be, where if it was actually a cj-3a frame it would only have come out to 80" correct.

still no mention of my super sleuth award.....

looks to bne a 5 frame to me. the rear body tub should come flush to the rear crossmember, and that front crossmember looks to be a 5'er to me (i've only seen the round crossmember on willys though... they did have a square one at some time.) other than that, if it has data plates you could check them against the frame. there should be a sequential number on the top side of the rails over the rear springs, and i believe by the battery tray up near the front (i've never really found the last one).

Yep - you got yourself a CJ5 frame. Shock mounts, rear stick-out, and the bumpstop on the passenger front (hanging off the frame just behind where the brake hose comes through) - all are CJ5 items.

My brother had a 3A on a CJ5 frame. Fit was pretty good. We used a piece of heavy 3"x3" angle to cover the extra length on the back. Made a great step and looked pretty good.

I too can verify you have a 5 frame under the 3 - looks just like the '46 2A we have on a 70ish 5 frame.
