I am finishing up the well documented front disk brake conversion on my 67 cj5, dana 27, and I am running into a not-so-well documented problem. As you can see in the following pictures, the caliper is hitting a bracket that is welded to the axle. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is the solution as simple as cutting off that bracket?
    Thanks!!

You could cut off the bracket, but your front driveshaft might then hit the starter.

I'm trying to figure out what that bracket is? Maybe its the close up pic that's throwing me off?

I had to cut off the bracket to stop from compressing the caliper. I haven't had any driveshaft clearence problems.
When the caliper hits the bracket it compresses and it takes a couple pedal pumps to get front brakes back.

Thats the bump stop brackets used on V-6 Jeeps to keep the starter and the frond propeller shaft from hitting each other like Timgr said. If you have a suspension lift it's really not needed. Cut it or trim it for clearance. Not "documented" but it has been discussed quite a bit previously.
