72 cj5 , 304 v8 distributor question

    Im trying to get the wiring on my motor finished so I can get it out of my garage. The single wire on the distributor, where does it go. I thought it went to the positive side of the coil until I saw the smoke....... hate when that happens. So now im thinking the negative side. whats the correct answer. Thank you

    What did you connect to the minus side of the coil? Nothing?

    Judging from the smoke, I am guessing the 12v ignition wire was hooked to the neg. Sounds like a few parts will need to be replaced, condenser at least.

    12v goes to + side, distributor wire goes to - side.
