I will look when I get home, but I doubt the tube is available separately. What's wrong with this one, other than surface rust? You can get the whole sender: http://www.mtscompany.com/jeep.htm

Thanks, Tim. I was speaking of the whole assembly generically as the pickup tube; I need the whole sending unit. Had high hopes that I was going to be able to tank mine and reinstall, but it is beyond serviceable life. Thanks for the link, I will give them a call.

Okay, let's just say you dropped your fuel tank and found the sending unit pictured up above. And let's just say you put a new one on order, but it's going to take a few days to get here. An also lets just say you were leaving tomorrow for a Jeep trip. So, you dunked your sending unit in Toilet Bowl Cleaner, and it came out looking like this:

Would you run the sending unit in a brand new tank for a week until the new one got installed?

To seal the hole? Yes. I'd not use the screen, put a short length of hose on the pickup tube (so I reach the bottom of the tank), and put a filter before the fuel pump.

    Is the sender dead electrically?

Sender is dead, would just be using it as a pickup tube and to seal the hole.

I have heard that about the reproductions. I think I will transfer my old float.

I used the plastic MTS float as well because my brass one was cracked. After I installed the plastic one, I found out the local ford parts dealer had the original brass ones. No one else had them. Got one to put in our '69 F350. That tank is behind the seat so it was easy to access.
