Everything's back together and in. So far, without drive shafts connected, it all seems to be working okay.

Parts: flywheel surfaced, new pilot bushing, clutch, pressure plate, throw out carrier, bearing and fork, trans bearings, second gear, synchro unit, reverse gear, transfer intermediate shaft, bearings, etc.

Parts purchased from Walcks, K-W and Herm. They all worked fine except for the trans mount, I couldn't get the holes to line up, so I had to reuse the old one. I'll keep it and try it on the next one.

Lesson learned: my aging torso no longer enjoys the creeping, crawling, twisting and turning required to do this work with the tub still on. Next time, the tub is coming off!:)

I tied a string to the end of the clutch fork before installing. It helped retrieve it when I dropped it into the bell and it also helped install the fork. Once I got the fork lined up, I pulled on the string and fork snapped into place. Then I used the exacto to cut the string.

I took it for a few laps around the block yesterday afternoon. No more "horrible howl" from the transfer case. The new synchros and second gear make nice crisp shifts. And, so far, no gear lube on the driveway!

My wife said last spring that she wanted it pretty. So the tub is off and it's gonna get pretty.

I had the chassis blasted. We're rolling and brushing the paint. We've put on 2 coats of Van Sickle implement primer. Here my wife is putting on the first color coat, Van Sickle Satin Black implement paint. One more coat of black should do it.

Thanks Walt, I think we're headed in the right direction. I'd hoped to be farther along with it by now but life keeps getting in the way. If things go well I should have it back together and running again by Thanksgiving. Or maybe Christmas.
