Which petronix

Really dumb question. I was looking on the Petronix site and they said for a 1970 225 I need the 1162A kit, but it dosen't fit:evil:. I was doing some other reading and it that says I need the 1165A. So any advice?

 

The 1162A is for the I6 (in-line 6) and the 1165 is for the 225 V6 odd fire which is what you have. Do you intend on using your original coil?

Not positive but think the 1165A has a high output coil with it. Believe the 1165 will be cheaper. It is used with the Delco distributor which has the vacuum advance canister.

 

You need to have a Delco distributor also. I don't believe they build one for the Prestolite. At least they weren't.

My distributor dosen't have a tag anywhere on it. I was looking at it some more and based off some of the pictures I think I have the Delco unit. The delco unit is a little flatter than the prestolite distributor and the cap is held on with two "screws" while the prestolite is held on with spring clips? I planned on replacing the coil too a little down the line, it has an Accell coil on it now and when I get a chance I'll test the ohms on it to make sure it works.

 

The Delco distributor cap will have a metal window in it for setting the dwell. The Accel coil will work with the Pertronix.
