Does anyone know what the gear ratio would be on a rear end from a two wheel drive, early 70's mail carrier jeep would be? It would be one with a 258 inline six.

You may want to post this in the intermediate forum or ask a mod to move it so you wont get yelled at. ;)

It depends on the Postal region that they were shipped to. Most are 3.73, but not uncommon to find 3.54 and 3.07 gears. You will also find that many of them vary from 50 -51" WMS-WMS. Always pull the cover to verify and never trust a tag.

I've seen them with 3.31's and even 2.54's although not as common.

I may be acquiring one in the next day or two. It was about to go to the crusher if I didn't rescue it.

Turned out to be a 76-80 model mail jeep. The rear end wasn't even close to what I needed. Looked like a narrowed full sized Dodge rear end. It was on 3 inch springs. Oh well.

The DJ model still ran a centered 44 up until 83 I believe. Someone probably swapped the 44 for a worthless model 20 so they could use the 44.

definitely not a 44. Was left side offset, and much larger than a 44. Was hoping to find a center drive 44. Oh well.....
