Will boxing the frame prevent spring mount/frame cracking??

Rapha you need to find you a buddy over here if parts become an issue. I have a friend in Germany that I send stuff to occasionally, I don't know what shipping to you would be, the friend of mine works for the same company I do, he worked in the US for 6 years, so I send it to him thru some of the other Germans at our plant when they go to visit relatives back home or the plant will send it to him in some of there part shipments back to Rehau in Germany.
Nice work on your Jeep, stick around so we can see how it turns out!!!

Rapha you need to set up your PM file so that some one can send you private messages.
What kind of company do you work for that brings you to Florida once a year?

Thats sounds like robbery, chevy bellhousings are cheap over here, most can be had for les than $25 unless it is a complete oddball like mruta was looking for, that still sounds excessive for shipping.

I have a complete aluminum chevy bellhousing with hydraulic clutch modification if you need it. I'll even throw in the master cylinder. It's not the prettiest setup in the world, but it works good.

i wheeled my old '75 prety hard and eventuly the frame broke in half right in front of the rear spring hanger. my original opion was that the old jeeps had it right by having a flexy frame to help with the flexing offroad.

thru experince this has changed. as allready mentioned this is hard on the frame and body. springs are suposed to flex so focus on them if you need more flex on the trail. when i built my '65, i knew it was going to be used hard so i used a '78 cj-5 frame as it is a factory boxed frame. has been great so far.

This is off subject, but thought it might help Rapha. Ifyou're in Germany find someone in the US military. APO shipment from the states is not an overseas shipment; for Europe (AE) it will only cost the shipment to New Jersey.

I always go back to design. Factory design is always a compromise. My bet is that if you boxed the frame it would simply crack in other areas. If you boxed every square inch of frame the jeep might become virtually unusable on or off road.

A new or different frame sounds like a good idea to me.

In my "oft times not very humble opinion", I like to drive my jeeps around the place and use them. Hence, none of my jeeps are modified. It is too expensive, too time consuming, and generally not necessary in the first place if the stock systems are working properly.

I must confess that I did modify a single master cylinder jeep to a dual master cylinder jeep, and I modified a V-6 frame to accept an F head engine.

I also have to confess that I like ARB lockers, but I don't have any.

but that is just my "OTNVH" opinion. That opinion will also make one a pariah amongst aftermarket and accessories parts vendors.

    good luck

I boxed my 2a at spring mounts with a square plate about 4 inches long directly above the mounts - no problems yet but only realy one season of serious use and some abuse and frame was nice shape to start. Where I mounted the roll cage to frame I made plates with C shaped ends to hopefully allow a smooth transition between boxed and no box. I was concerned about boxing whole frame for loss of some flex to help tires stay on the ground and also if not welded properly the possibilitiy of distorting frame. Anyone have any suggestions on welding method when boxing a complete frame to avoid warping/distortion? I stiffened the front totaly by incorporating a winch mount sandwiched between frame rails and power steering box mount and no problems yet.
