All the data plates and build stickers are missing. Title says it's a 71, vin indicates mid 70 build date. There is a current Commando on Ebay with an Aug. 70 build date and it is vin is 69706 where as mine is 69245. Seems pretty close.

It's original color is white, you can see it under the floor mat and loads of other places where the yellow is coming off.
Is it a common shifter console? Or did some PO swap it out because it may have been possibly available as after market?

I still have the original dash and the inside of the glove box door is white too.
Bubba worked this Commando over pretty hard....

My first thought would be that it's a Hurst going by the shifter since the auto used the Dual Gate. A mid 70 build date and titled as a 71 is not unusual as they were actually 70's they were pulling off the line to get sent to Hurst for conversion. The build date on mine is June I think, some were May. If you pull the cowl vent there may be the remnants of the stripes still visible. Could just be someone added the Dual Gate. Where is this one from, it looks kind of familiar.

I picked this one up in June-July 2008. Looking at the CA Blue and yellow plate I'm hoping it's a CA native.
Pulled the cowl vent and no red or blue stripe remnants, bummer.
Do all auto's have that same console?

Guess it's not the one I was thinking of then. All Jeepster autos up to 71 had the console and a few standard with the side shift transmission had it too, very few of those around.
Could still be a Hurst but without any records it's hard to say. If Jeep/AMC kept track of how many were made and the VIN numbers they sure didn't make sure that info survived. If you get a chance post up some more pictures.

It could possibly have been a Hurst model......at one time.
Who would put that type of shifter in a Jeepster when they're hard to find in the first place.
Alan, look at the shifter in the Hurst model in the craigslist ad below.

Got the wrong handle on it but if it's a cable shift then it's from an Olds and someone swapped it in, if it's a solid rod it's from a Jeepster. Still could have been swapped in from a Hurst though. Don't recall seeing any Olds with anything other than cable shift. If you're on Facebook check with Lee Tidwell, aka Mr Fast Bucks on the JCCA forum with that VIN, might already be in the database.
