Picked up a parts jeep I've been looking at for a few weeks. I think it will have everything I want for my jeep and will give me the chance to look into the cross-mating of a M151 engine to a civilian transmission.

The front tires were flat so I used the ones off my Jeep to get it home. It will be fun to see if I can get it going.

I figure the grill guard and tow bar are worth what I paid for the whole thing. The motor can be turned by hand so I have high hopes of it being salvageable maybe even without a rebuild. The electrical system on it seems like a complete jury rig but I can live with that.....

Was off work today so I spent the day tinkering with parts Jeep. As expected the wiring harness was too bubba'd to be functional. I straight wired the ignition and managed to run the motor and drive the Jeep around the yard which was interesting since I've already scavenged one of the brake baking plates and only put the hub back on without any brake parts. I was able to drive it into the shop where I can start going over it thoroughly and decide what will benefit me the most and what is sell-able and what is scrap.
Was good to here the engine run though....like a little sewing machine...smoked a little but I didn't get to run it enough to see if that would stop.

Shoot, Mine smokes a little, too.

do the brakes, fill her with water and check for leaks. Then start her and let her run till good and warmed up. Then check for leaks again.

I have seen parts vehicles that turn out to be better than the vehicle they are supposed to donate parts to!

It definitely won't be better than my "Bionic Jeep". I've just got to decide how to go about combining them. The parts Jeep has the better frame and springs. Mine has the better body (I just fabricated floors for it). My earlier question about trying to crossmate the current M151 engine to the parts Jeep tranny is still unanswered, but looks doubtful on my budget (or lack thereof). I'm now considering which drive train to use. If I stay original It'll just be a body swap. If I cross mate, lots of fabrication may be necessary, If I stay with the current engine and tranny, I still have the problem of hybrid drive shafts and drive shaft angles created by the right side load differentials and center drive on the military transfer case (but it did get me through hunting season). Lots to think about.
