I have a lot of questions because I'm new to the Jeep world. Got a YJ from the neighbor and my brother wanted it so I got a 1970 CJ a few weeks later. Anyhow the coil on my 1970 CJ-5 w/ V-6 is ziptied to the heater hose that comes out of the water pump. This is not correct I presume. Where does it go? Pics would help so I can figure out what mount I need to.

mine sits in a holder on the intake, but it could really be anywhere close.

I went out and looked it over and there is a ring above the fuel pump that looks like it could hold the coil but at present the fuel line goes through it. Any ideas what that ring is for :?

Do you mean the ring thats bolted to the small plate above the fuel filter? If so thats for an inline fuel filter, at least it is on my '71.

The original fuel filter is gone a small glass one goes through a ring mounted above the fuel pump. The ring is about the same diameter as the coil. A fuel filter could go there I guess if it is the right diameter. What is the diameter of your fuel filter, about the same as the coil?

Thank you, my coil is in the right place, just the mount is missing. The Previous Owner used a zip tie. Guess I'll find a mount and put it back.

    Resurrecting this from the dead....

I forget where my coil attaches to on the frame-up's V6. :?

    By comparison:
On the '71 (225), the coil attaches to the innermost alt bracket bolt. But this is not possible on this V6 ('66) because the temp sensor is threaded in the intake there (never seen it there B4!!).

On the '64 (225), there is a spot on the tip-top of the intake fer it to go. No can do on this intake.

So after hooking everything else up, I may have to ziptie the coil to something. Any insight?

This is where my coil is located. It doesn't really matter Alan where you put it. If you have a long coil wire mount it on the firewall or fenderwell.

Its attached to the cylinder head, the bolt closest to the intake manifold, just above where the head attaches to the block.
You need to go look at my photobucket account and see what my whole frame and everything looks like.

Isn't that where the alt bracket goes? :? If the answer is "yes", I tried that with no luck. The alt bracket has a molded ridge for a socket that boogers up the coil bracket/holder/thingey. Plus, the dag-gone temp sending unit is drilled in the front of the intake such that it encroaches that space for the coil.
