My t14 tranny works fine but wines when in second compared to 1st and 3rd. Could its prior life as a mudder where maybe 2nd gear was the gear of choice be responsible.

Have you looked for broken teeth on the main shaft gear and cluster gear?

    HI

I questioned broken teeth a while back as I found two little pieces in the gear box. I checked as best as I could and could not find where they came from. Maybe they are the cause of the wine in 2nd. I am doing a clutch job and the tranny seals need replacement so I guess now is the time to get to the bottom of this

I'd pull it down and thoroughly inspect the parts. 2nd gear is helical cut and shouldn't be any noisier than first or third. Check for chipped or broken teeth like Timgr suggested but look carefully at both second gear and the cluster gear. Also look for wear on the front side and back side of 2nd gear at the thrust surfaces and inside the gear and the mainshaft where the gear rides. Also check the 2nd and 3rd gear synchronizer hub where second gear thrusts against for wear. If any of this is worn it can allow the gear to get out of position or rock on the shaft and allow it to be noisy.
