I just put a Holley 4-barrel carb on my Dauntless and I'm wondering how much travel is there available in the standard linkage set-up. I don't believe the stock set-up allows the carb to open completely, but I don't know if it is a big issue. I'd probably never use full throttle but why have it and not be able to get it? If I bend the accelerator linkage enough to allow the bell-crank to go all the way to the firewall it puts the pedal up too high for comfort.

Another question is what if you remove the curb idle stop screw and the motor still idles too high? Is this something you have to deal with when you use a larger carburetor? It is a Holley Truck Avenger 450cfm and Street Dominator manifold.

I would have a helper come over and hold the accelerator to the floor while I figured out if the carb was fully open. Personally I prefer to have a tiny bit of travel left so I don't strain anything. If you determine the throttle travel is too short you can lengthen the arm on the bell-crank or drill a new linkage hole closer to the throttle shaft (preferably somewhat in front of the existing one). There can be geometry problems so remember the throttle shaft will only open until your attachment point is in line with the throttle shaft and the end of the bell-crank.

The linkage could be the cause of your high idle problem, try setting the idle speed with the linkage disconnected.
