D44 rear brake backing plate removal

    Can the backing plate for the brakes be removed with the bearings still installed? It does not look like it would pass through, but I haven't removed it yet

    As I recall, the axle and bearing have to come out to free the backing plate. The bearing is pressed on to the axle. So, if you mean with the bearing still in the housing, no.

    The axle must be removed to remove the backing plate. The bearing is pressed on the axle and will pass through the center hole of the backing plate. Sometimes due to rust or debris it's hard to get the outer seal through the center hole but with some persuasion it will go through.

    So the bearing should pass through the backing plate. Thats the answer I was looking for. Thanks
