HEI vacuum advance

    Thanks jc588, that's exactly the pic I needed. If I make a plate with a slot I can fine tune the advance if I need to.

    Good info, Walt. I'll probably start with the adjustment you mentioned and see where I am at with the total advance. Guess I'll keep it on the ported vacuum nipple for starters. Didn't get anything done on the Jeep today. Our high today was 28* and I was out of propane for the space heater for the garage.

    My accel advance didn't come with the stop plate so I made one. After messing with the timing and the stop plate, I finally removed the stop plate and was able to get what the engine needed with-out it. Just FWIW.

    The problem is max manifold vacuum is at idle and decreases as the throttle plates open. That means vacuum advance decreases as engine rpm increases. Again, just the opposite of what should be happening. If you are getting too much total then either the initial timing needs backed off or the distributor is not set up right for the engine and needs set up with a stop plate as suggested, the weights/springs changed, etc. etc.
