I was looking around and found a guy that is willing to sell me a t19. He says it has a chevy pattern with a dana bolt pattern on the rear for a 18or 20. I cant find any info on these. Were the t19 ever factory chevy transmissions? He lives about 3 hours away and I havent had time to drive up to see it yet. Seems it would be a good idea to use this if it is what he says, therefore eliminating alot of adapting and such since I have a 355 chevy and a dana 18 trans case. Any help is greatly appreciated. The transmission casting numbers are t19-148. if that helps.

I'm sure somebody will chime in here that's more knowledgeable than me on this, but I think that the T19 you describe may have come out of a Jeep with a 258 Chevy engine. I'm not familiar with any older Chevy 4X4s that ran Model 18 cases.

You're right, the T-19 never was offered as a Chevrolet transmission. However, R&P 4 WD Parts Inc. who are in Oregon City, OR modify T-18 and 19 cases to bolt directly to a GM bellhousing with no adapters. It's possible the guy has one of these or that he has already adapted the front. I'd take your bellhousing with you as mentioned to make sure. Nickmil.

Thanks for the novak site. I already have it though, and it doesnt help at all if it wasnt a ford transmission. It never mentions anything specific . I have someone trying to check on the cast numbers for me. I hope that will clear some of this up for me. As far as it never being offered as a chevy specific, I dont remember it ever coming in a chevy truck, but our beloved jeeps, until they bacame dodges, were usually some strange contraption of ford chevy dodge and the occasional amc parts. I was thinking it might have come in one of the chevy powered jeeps Thanks

Nope. Jeep didn't use the T-19. They used the T-18. IH and Ford were the primary users of the T-19 and it was never behind a GM motor as GM used the SM 420 and the SM 465 or Rockwell in some rare cases. Sounds like a conversion which means the casting numbers won't do any good. IH Scout 2's used the T-19 with a 20 transfer case but they were 4-1 first gear ratio's except for the rare diesel models which were 6.32-1. Check the T-19 out carefully also as a 6.32-1 first gear ratio is rare. The wide ratio's were used mostly in Ford trucks. Most Scout 2 T-19's were 4-1 first. There were 3 ratio options, 4-1, 5 something to 1, and 6.32-1. The 6.32-1 will have 17 teeth on the input gear, the 4-1 will have 23 teeth on the input gear, and I don't remember how many the 5-1 will have but will be somewhere in between. An easy way to tell a Scout T-19 is the main case will have the mounting boss for the trans mount cast into it. A Ford case will not as it used the rear output housing/adapter for the rear mount. You cannot use a stock Jeep T-18 adapter to Jeep transfer case on a T-19 because the counter gear shaft is in a different location on the T-19 than the T-18 and you cannot get the adapter on. The aftermarket adapters accommodate this. Nickmil.
