Hey everyone. So - my wife and I are moving back to Kentucky from Texas, and I'm currently using the Jeep as my daily driver for the next few weeks since we've already moved my car. I'm looking to get a soft top on a budget, and I found an original '72 top that was the PO took off his jeep when he bought it. Here is what it looks like:

I'm going down to look at it tonight, but it sounds like a few of the brackets may be missing. Any idea if it would be hard to make/find the missing brackets? Also, a '72 top should fit on a '67 without a problem, right? I know the Bestop ones are '55-'75. Thanks!

Ps, here is my Jeep after a full summer of work - tranny and transfer rebuilt, and all kinds of other fun....

Yes, if the '72 has the original windshield, the top will fit your Jeep too. If you can see the Jeep it came off of, make sure the windshield wiper motor is on the outside, above the cowl. If it has the later windshield, with the wiper motor inside the cabin, then this top will also be the later style.

Only thing I don't see in the pics is the brackets to mount the bows on the tub and the rods to frame out the door openings. I'd guess the guy has them though?

If it is a Bestop, they will sell you the hardware that you need. Go to there web site and you can look at install instructions and parts list with pictures. Where you moving to in KY?

Ok...so I pulled the trigger on it, even though it is missing a few parts. It is an original Whitco top - and in fairly good shape too! I'm trying to make some brackets for it right now. One of the bows has a brackets that the other poles slide into, the other just has holes. Any idea what the originals looked like? Also - what about these door poles?

Btw Steve - we're moving to Glasgow.

Excellent! I'll give you a call tomorrow. Looks like I bought a piece of trash. Zipper just tore out of the door so now I have to sew in a new zipper, and the back straps are dry rotting. Gonna need new snaps too. ugh. j.e.e.p.

If it is not too bad my wife does minor repairs on tops. She sewed the top back together on my Tux. We'll have to see. I have a packet of snaps as well. Look forward to hearing from you.

Last thing - I'm going to need to find a picture and measurements of the vertical and horizontal rods around the doors. If someone has them, I'd be much obliged. I'm guessing these won't be hard to make. Thanks!

I am in the same boat. I have a 74 with original whitco top. I have every thing but the brackets that go behind the door. Any photos or measurements would be helpful. Or if someone has a set, let me know.

I can get you measurements of rods that go around doors and photos of them this weekend if you still need them.
