We are restoring a 1968 Kaiser Jeep CJ5. Any leads on good tops, roll bars or cages? It has a Dauntless Buick V6 engine in it. When looking for parts, is there any additional information I need to know about the engine? Were there different sizes/types? I did find out, when looking for a master cylinder, that there are two types and the one on this vehicle is the rarer of the two. We bought this car new in 1968!

    First, welcome from KS.

Take some time to fill out your profile so we know where you're from please.

Try searching this forum for good information on all the topics you asked about.

Shouldn't need to know anything special about the Dauntless I can think of. Other than two types of distributors, just put HEI in it and be done with that though. ;)

See the tech section to catch up on the Buick V6 family.

    Welcome lindafrew from Ohio.

Tops? Ebay might be the cheapest bet. But you'd need to know which type of top you're looking for (Tigertop, BesTop, whatever). Pictures of your CJ would help alot!!

When looking for parts....you just need to know that the parts would be for "the Buick 225". Lots of good resources out there for virtually anything you need.

Again welcome, and would love to hear about what you plan on doing to your CJ (road-worthy, off-road, etc.). And we love pictures!!! :D

AMC never made a V6 that I know of. At least not a Buick casting.

    They used I6's.

    Welcome from Norwalk.

Do a search on the net for cj tops and find the style you like. Then start shopping them, ie:ebay and the like. You'll find what you're looking for.

    Howdy from W. MI.

By "rarer type" when talking about the master cylinder, I'm guessing you have a dual-well?

On the roll bars/cages, what's your intended use for the Jeep? You could probably scare up the traditional fenderwell mounted roll bar, but if you're thinking of using the Jeep off-road I'd recommend a full roll cage with a hoop that goes behind the windshield frame and ties into the floor, then with "spreaders" back to that fenderwell bar.

IIRC Smittybuilt has a front hoop tie in kit for around $120 that will tie into an existing fenderwell bar.

The other option, which I'm currently having done, is a full-on custom cage. I have a CJ6, so the aftermarket doesn't really provide much, but going this route I'm also able to have the seat mounts and seat belt attachment points integrated into the cage.

The seat belts are from a TJ (new Wrangler), so every seat will get a shoulder belt and the front seats will even have the fancy shoulder-height adjusters.
