I need to remove the axles out of my front 30 to setup my gears. What is involved in removing the axles? Thanks

The last one that I removed I just unbolted everything and they just slid out. Of course that was on a '81 CJ8.

unbolted what exactly? I dont want to tear it down, I just need to pull the shafts back enough to get the carrier out.

    Thanks

You have to unbolt the spindles (6 bolts) So needless to say you have to remove the rotors or backing plates, hubs etc.

I did this not long ago. Check out this thread

    http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7612&highlight=D30+Joint

It's pretty simple. This was the first time I had done it and it went pretty smoothly. You'll need a 2 1/16 socket to remove the spindle nut. I ended up having to order one from 4wd.com, so keep that in mind. I ended up using a 3 lb hammer to get the spindle to break free. That was the hardest part. The instructions in the above thread are pretty much dead on. Hope this helps :)
