Does anyone have a good fix/suggestion for quieting the hinge rattle on a 73 cj pass seat? Tried brazing it tighter some years ago with only short term success.
    Thanks

Since I don't use the top and have no need for flipping it up, I'm considering welding it solid

If you do that, you'll lose access to the under seat toolbox.

Maybe wrapping pin with pipe thread tape to take up the slack and cushion the contact. I guess it's one of the things I can try. There isn't too much clearance around the hinge pin, maybe I could open it up to give some room to put in a sleeve of a quieter material.

I used to wrap a bungee cord in there between the seat and seat frame.

I'll have to give that bungee cord idea a shot, maybe two. Best idea yet, thanks :beer:

My idea is to cut off the stock pieces & weld on some tabs with holes drilled in them. Then use a small implement pin (or even a nut & bolt) to hold the seat in place.
But, I don't have the nessecary fabrication skills to do it-I'd have to pay somebody. So, I've never gotten around to doing anything about it.

It doesn't rattle when there's someone seated on it. Are you using the latch?

Thus I'd think the right approach would be to put some kind of pre-load on the seat so it won't rattle when it's empty. The bungie cord is an example of this. I suppose if you put enough pre-load on the seat, it will only rattle over the worst bumps - and then it will be drowned out by all the other noises.

That's true-it doesn't rattle if someone is sitting there. And I do use the latch.
However, I don't have a lot of confidence in the latch. I kinda worry that if I was in a wreck,(with no passenger) the seat could come unlatched & swing up enough to come out of the pivots. Then the seat could become a big 40lb. projectile flying around!

Latch the seat belt to hold the seat in place. That's what I do as mine doesn't have a latch or a provision for one. Just never got around to installing one.

It does rattle with someone in the seat, depending on how they lean forward or back. I'm thinking of maybe putting some stainless hose clamps around the pins and hinge plate to secure it from moving around in the slots. The seat back latch is secure and not a problem.

Consider wrapping the pins with some rubber material, such as pieces cut from an innertube.
