I am going to build my cage soon. This thread really is a good read even thoguh it is on Pirate board. I am not so scared now to think about using Sch 40 pipe since i can get it easier locally. Everything seems to be so negative about pipe, this is very interesting and informative.

now i remember why i dont go on there anymore.
personally i would not go with pipe just because i dont want to hear from people how bad pipe is. if i never had to listed to anyother person then i guess i would go with it.

Yeah i fully understand. For a pirate thread it is good if you can wade throguh the BS and flames. By no means am i going to be a torch bearer for pipe, but for me i feel it will be plenty strong and work fine for me for protection.

And to think that thread was relatively tame for others i have unfortunately read through :(

I looked for my receipt, but couldn't find it for my front hoop. I'm pretty sure I on;y paid about $120 for the hoop and two spreaders, made by Smittybilt. All you have to do is put it in and weld it. A lot less aggravation and it's the right material. Just my .02

I wouldn't use pipe for anything but what it's designed for, transporting material internal to the pipe. It is not meant for structural use and is not designed for it. HREW is fine in most situations and is allowed by many competition organizations whereas pipe is not allowed by any organized competition organizations that I'm aware of. What does that say? There were some good points in that thread about DOM vs. HREW and cage design if you could wade through the BS though. Use a good STRUCTURAL designed tubing in the right thickness for your application. Design a good structurally strong cage, and bend it with the correct tools, and an HREW cage will hold up just fine for 95% of the people out there. The other 5% are in extreme situations that should have a DOM or Chrome moly cage properly welded with the right equipment.......

I've rollover tested three of my Jeeps multiple times and the cages and occupants all have come out just fine. One of them was a hard endo and rollover. Guess you could say I've "tested" my opinion by actual "Hands-on" experience. :D
    Nickmil.
